Looks great, good luck! By the way- factory shift boots aren't terribly expensive and it will clean up the only real sore spot that I see. And some Leatherique on those seats!

Being a tru "Babe in the Woods" on Porsches, I wondered about the shift **** and boot.
Here is the boot sticker. One option list shows XC8 as a wood gear ****, so maybe this is right. The boot looks a little dirty, but maybe it is the right one.
Option 980 should be Ruffled Leather. Seats may not be dried out, just "Ruffled".
Any other insights into the options would be welcomed !

Yeah, nicely optioned. The boot looks more normal in this shot, the other pic might have just given it an odd look. I'm only mentioning the leather because it looks like it could use a deep clean. Though that could also be a trick of the photo. The interior option would be "supple leather".

OK, just spoke with Steve DeJong of DeJong motorsports who did the PPI.........
BTW, he is a very helpfull and honest guy !
The car drives well with good tire and brake life left.
The small stuff...
front & rear gas struts all bad.
headliner loose at rear of sunroof
fr. swaybar link boots torn
oil damp by cyl 1+2
cam boxes damp
He removed the valve covers and found....
2 rocker shafts weeping
valve guides worn out of spec
AC does not work
Body has had partial or full repaint. Says it was a good job. A 5 footer.
The owner has had the bra on the car for a year and a half and wouldn't remove it for the PPI, too difficult.
The owner does not want to provide a Smog check before selling.
The minimum he will take for the car is $22,500 ( ouch ! )
Seems a lot for the work involved.

It's not so much the work involved, but the price. I firmly believe that a 964 selling for over $20k should not need much work, at all. The small stuff is no big deal, but still not becoming for a car going for over $20k. The busted a/c is big, cause I'm in Texas and it gets hot here. As for the "weeping rocker shafts" I'm not sure what that means. And the worn valve guides, how do you test for that? Interior color is kinda undesirable IMO and the car has over 100k on the clock.

Steve said that he removes the exhaust and valve covers. Then inspects head studs, valve to guide clearance and rocker shafts. Also a visual of the inside of the Cat. to look for damage.
This tends to confirm that the car has not had a top end job in the past. The owner has no records prior to buying the car in 2000 with 94,000 miles.

At $22.5K, spotty service history, a wet engine and a repaint for god-knows-why, I'd keep looking. There are a lot nicer ones out there for less.
At 129K, you're probably staring down the barrel of some serious mechanical renewal costs in the not-too-distant future, mostly engine related.
