Default Which replacement clutch for modified engine?

So it's official - I'm getting a bigger, badder motor. To avoid controversy - let's say it's about 300HP.

The question now is which clutch?

I searched and searched and there's no defintive discussion around clutch choice. I have run both SPEC and ACT clutches in rally cars and loved them both. Dramtically better than stock, but those were japanese cars.

964 options include...

http://www.andysautosport.com/porsch...tch_kits/spec/

or...

http://www.titanmotorsports.com/actheduclkit1.html

Thoughts on these? What else is there?

This will be a street car only.

Thanks for your insight.

Would you consider a 965 clutch?

$828 + shipping from Tischer Porsche. Would retain close to stock pedal feel I'd imagine (dunno how the aftermarket ones feel).

OTOH, I bet a good condition stock clutch would work out fine at 300hp, but I'm no authority on the matter. I've read a lot about the 300hp Motec 9M motors, and can't remember anybody suggesting an upgraded clutch (unless the stock one is already smoked). On a N/A motor, you're not gonna have the clutch killing torque levels of a FI motor...

if an upgrade is necessary, i would prefer as much stock GT3 parts as you could use...

Is a stock clutch cheaper than the options presented? (And by 965 - do you mean a 964 Turbo?)

And will GT3 parts fit in a 964???

single-mass flywheel is the same as the 996 and 997 GT3 clubsport Flywheel.

Pressure plate is quite changable. I use stock 964 pp, with sachs performance clutch disc (that fits for 996 GT3).

Throw-out bearing will be stock 964 RS...

the combination from pressure plate and clutch disc will define the max torque of the clutch assembly...

RK,

I am running close to 400hp in my 964 and I opted to spend the money and put a 996TT clutch in which is good for 500 plus HP.

This was recommended by Protomotive.

I kind of agree with the others there is a PORSCHE factory answer without going to some aftermarket nonsense.

Japanese car vs Porsche worlds of different. Japanese clutches always feel like a wet noodle.

Awesome feedback guys - thanks - and since there was no other thread along these lines - I'm hoping this will be helpful for others as well.

I have contemplated a LWFW (ala RS) but this is a street car with A/C - and therefore I don't want to go that route.

I'll keep the DMF and so - of the suggested options - which will and will not mate up with that?

964 Turbo Clutch?
964 RS Clutch?
996TT Clutch?
GT3 Clutch?

Thanks!
