Default 'Clicking' engine sound - trouble.

The car's suddenly developed an odd 'clicking' sound.... it seems to be coming from the offside of the engine... can't figure if it's inside or outside the engine bay... cam covers perhaps? The 'clicking' speeds up if the revs are increased.

Car is due in for a service very soon.

Anyway I'm uploading a video that I'm sure will explain the sound much better than words. I'll post it as soon as it's ready.

Could something be hitting the cooling fan? Is everything clear around the fan, fan shroud and belts?

Yup nothing catching there. Video is almost ready...

It sounds like a normal 964 engine 'clicking' noise just louder than usual... I'm praying this isn't bad news.

The engine recently had a complete reseal, would this not have been spotted?

Gosh I love this forum - still amazed at how quick and informed it is!

Right here is the video - apologies for the bad camera work. It sounds to me like a normal 964 noise just louder clicking than usual...

Is the noise worse above or below the engine? Valve out of adjustment or maybe a bad Air Conditioning compressor?

Kind of sounds like a spark plug wire is bad and you are hearing the spark jumping to ground.

My engine kinda sounds like that I think, even after I adjusted the valves recently.

Thanks you for all the replies.

To me it sounds worse below the engine. I was thinking valves also... It's due an adjustment. Air conditioning has just been re-gassed so that would have been flagged.

hmmmm... could be.

So far,
Diagnosis possibilities in order of probability:

1. Valve Adjustment needed.
2. Bad spark plug wire.

My engine ticking noise (similar to yours) turned out to be an exhaust leak (due in my case to a broken exhaust stud).

+1 on valves or exh leak. Neither are fatal.
