Advantages of Cup wheels 8x17 / 9.5x17 ?
I have a 91 C4 with Cup replica wheels 7.5 x 17 front 8 x 17 rear.
Car is lowered, 21 mm rear sway bar, perfect power strut bar. Handles great.
Any advantage to going to a wider wheels front & rear ?
How will it affect handling, driveability?
I realize I will need spacers front/rear. The look is nice, and NO I dont like design 90 wheels, even the uber rare 9s !
Thanks for the input !

On the same size tire, the one mounted to the wider wheel will have a better contact patch and sidewall profile. Or, you could also move to a wider tire size and still have an appropriate sidewall profile.
I've heard sidewall profile can affect the traction breakaway characteristics of a tire. The more round a sidewall profile, the more gradual the traction break away.

Considering some 9.5x 17 Cup wheels for rear. Undecided on 7 x 17 in front or 8x17.
What are the advantages / disadvantages of either set up?

just depends on setup, driver, tire choice.
There is a point where you can get TOO much tire and the car doesn't work well.
I did not notice much difference between the D90s and the slighly wider cup wheels (8f/9.5r) as far as grip goes. I did feel the road more and wasn't as slanky on the edge of grip. No doubt it was the lesser stiffer sidewall of the 17s over the 16s.
Not sure that is a enough rear bar on a C4.
And I don't know that a wider front tire will overcome the C4s understeering as well as some other method. It might make it worse in some cases.
Furthermore, when you get into the finer details of chassis setup and handling it will come down to the driver for those smaller adjustments.
In the end chances are very good you will never use the limits of the car or it's setup - even if you do DE or TDs.

Found some Cup wheels 7x17 et 55 & 9.5x17 et 68. The 9.5 wheels have an "esteemed heritage"
Being restored & getting new Bridgestone RE11 tires. Now it's on to rear spacers and seeing what size works.

The 9.5 were the factory 964 US Carrera Cup race wheels, they are fairly rare and expensive. Depending on what size tires you run thet are a few mods to make everything fit including a small spacer. The proper front rim for this set up is the 8".
