Probably so that the AB won't explode and tatto your corneas with airbag mesh when you are just driving along minding your own business...Ask an ophthalmologist. Apparently some people think that at this point some of the older airbags are getting a little crotchety.

So I installed the wheel and went out for a ride. Oh no!!! The turn signals do not cancel. So I took off the wheel and reinstalled it, this time with the tooth on the same side (left) as the turn stalk. Voila. Now the turn signal cancels properly.

I bought a self adhesive Porsche crest from Ebay - it fitted over the Momo horn button and looks as though its always been there. I wasn't happy about the wood rim when I bought the car but its very comfortable to drive with and I've grown to quite like it...

The wires connect 8" or more away from the ring. I'll see if I can get a photo. No need to slice the rubber sheathing. Going upside down under the dash helped figure it out and was pretty easy to do even being kinda awkward 6'5" because the steering wheel is out of the way. Once you trace the wires you can see how to feed them out and get to the connectors.

I received the horn contact today so I took off the Momo wheel and hub and pushed the long arm of the contact into the hole. Then I reinstalled the hub and wheel.
Now I have a problem. I get one of three scenarios, depending on how I turn the steering wheel:
1. Nothing hapopens. No horn when pushing the horn button.
2. If I turn the steering wheel slightly I now get the horn to function whern depressing the button.
3. If I turn the wheel more I get the horn on all the time, not even pushing the button.
I can get the horn to stop and start by turning the steering wheel. It goes between the three above mentioned scenarios.
So this is definitely not drivable like this.
Any suggestions? Did I put the horn contact piece in wrong?
The horn contact part number is 964.652.104.00

you may need to bend the horn contact towards the boss.
Look from the side to see if the horn contact piece is in contact with the boss.

Here's a photo of the horn contact. Looks high enough to me.
But if the metal strip wasn't high enough to contact the hub, then why would it be active all by itself some of the time? Surely that would indicate that contact is being made.
Could it be the horn button that is malfunctioning?

Sorry, I know there have been other threads about it but variable success for some, not so much for others. It's not quite as plug and play as it might seem. I look forward to hearing what you find.

If the horn isn't working what is the usual problem? Do people get bad horn buttons? I think it's more likely that something has been missed. Maybe the horn contact is not tracking on it's contact correctly?

I just did this install, with the exact symptoms Medent describes.

The Porsche Horn Contact does not match the radius of the Momo hub. It needs to be outwards about 1/8"

You need to move the lower portion of the contact plastic to the right by a small amount, then fix it with epoxy or tape so the brass contact can fit correctly into the groove at the back of the hub. In the stock position it isn't quite right.

Anyone: According to g60pops' link above the 993 guys have to populate a connector on the back of the switch housing, is that not needed on the 964 then? I haven't heard of that with the 964's and thought the horn contact adaptor pictured was all that was needed.

Apparently it needs a bit of "encouragement/repositioning" though. I'll have to look at that. Can you just tweak it?
