His car is against the wall, so even if he can unlock the door, it won't allow him to open it and access to the car's interior.

My bmw beater's battery died once and the only lock that still worked mechanically was the trunk... opened it, popped the trunk light out, alligatored 12v to the leads and that gave enough juice for the remote unlock to kick in... not familiar with 964's but maybe my approach can be adapted? is there a parking light you can remove?

I would try to open the front trunk to power the battery.
It your model is 91+, with the release cable in the indicator, if it is a 90, with a loooong rigidish metal wire (coat hanger type but longer) inserted between the window and the seal at the B-post, with a hook to catch the release-handle.
