Default Help with location of VIN code?

Hi, I'm helping a guy with buying a race 964 which is supposed to be a cup but it has been rebuilt a couple of times so of course there are no paper labels any more and the steel plate on the inner side of the right front fender is gone and the steel plate under the fuel tank is a mess.

Are there any other places where you can a find a stamped VIN code. I think I have heard of place in the rear behind the bumper? Anyone know?

Thanks,

Thomas

There's a VIN on the driver side "A" pillar, half way up. You have to look thru the windshield to read the #

I've never seen the "A-pillar" location. That's maybe a US thing. Any more info on hidden VN-codes, anyone? It would be really useful if we could confirm the identity of this bodyshell.

We have that VIN location in Australian delivered 964s too - but it's on the passenger side... RHD cars.

Pretty sure that's all of them accounted for, Thomas. The under fuel tank one is the ultimate one.

Is it worth checking the shell number with Porsche? The number is on the rear parcel shelf in the right hand corner (looking towards the front)

There's a lot of information about cup car shell numbers on the Porsche club GB forum. According to that information the shell numbers should also be on the bonnet and engine lid......presuming they haven't been replaced due to racing incidents of course!
