Unpleasant Surprise (Cancer)
So I decided to replace the windshield, upon removal, this is what was found.
Supposedly this is a fairly common problem ...
Here are some before and current pictures.

I don't, but I did see a little bubble forming. I would definitely catch it now before it becomes a much bigger job. I'm looking at 4 hours of work before paint.

I've got bubbling on the same spot too. I'll be looking to get it repaired sometime next year hopefully. I'm hoping it isn't that bad.
Yes, this is common, usually the result of a past windshield replacement where the paint on the mounting area was scratched in the uninstall/install process.

I've just had the same thing done and my bodyshop said it was also quite a mess. Quite a common problem I think with people who don't have the original one fitted.

I was reading a thread on the same topic in the 993 subforum awhile back and people were saying $800-1600 maybe. I guess it depends on pricing in your area. This thread is definitely motivating me to get mine looked into and i'm praying it isn't as bad as the person who started this thread.

I sincerely doubt this many occurrences is due to mal fitment or poor windsheild installation...
I also had this on a prior 993 and simply presumed it was due to condensate pooling under the glass
when the a/c was running (a few choice holes in a/c vent thanks to PO stereo installer) ,but my thinking
now after seeing this so often in similar if not identical spot ,is that the windsheild gasket likely fits
poorly or stretched in this area and after rubbing and squeaking we're so familiar with produces a bare
spot.
This spot is then ripe for corrosion once rain ,washing and even a/c condensate pool and begin to
deteriorate area further...viola bubbling paint then special surprise when glass is removed! Bert

I am with Bert on this one. The rubber seal on the 964 allows water passed even when new and it pools in the corners; no-where for it to escape. Intact paint or not, water sitting on a metal surface will lead to rust, especially after 20 years. If it was down to nicks made by winscreen fitters, you would see the problem on other parts of the winscreen surround, not just the corners. I am sure we hate to admit it, but it comes down to a crappy design.
I had my screen rubber sealed in with gunk to fill that 'void' after I had mine fixed. Seems to be working so far, but will have to see long term.
