Updated pics
So lastnight was a long one but got alot done so here are the pics as promised. The drivers side rear window was almost impossible to get out it had lots of that black window putty between the seal and car for some reason. We did lots of bubble wrapping to make sure the interior stays mint. Lots more to be done. So much to do so little time. You guys know how that goes. The process will continue later.

Have you considered changing the rear window? I will when/if I ever paint my car to get rid of the 3rd brake light and go with the 993 style. See http://www.pcarworkshop.com/images/f...996_660396.pdf

Update
So this is where we ar at now. Car is at the body shop and before taking bumpers, fenders and everything else off. I just had to see what was under the rust. We found some small holes and a little more rust that was not visible in the window area under the moulding. It looks as if some one tried to repair it before but just covered it with body filler. Needless to say now it will be getting cut out completely and sectioned in. So it will be repaired the right way. More pics to come. Let me know what you guys think.

The rust holes around the windshield don't look too bad all things considering. I'm not sure if I'd just weld up the holes or go through the trouble of grafting in a donor section.
Keep up the good work! That car was pretty nice before you got started on it. It's going to be VERY nice when you're done with it!

Thanks kaefer I'm going to section it. I want to make sure its done once and done the right way. Yes the car was in very good condition when I got it but now its time to make her PERFECT lol. Also I will be doing my own little touches but in all honesty it was good enough when I got it from you. Everyone who sees it says I'm crazy but I just like my porches perfect in every way. Thanks again.... I will keep the pics coming as promised.

I have never gone through a paint and body work done like this but the car looks great from the picts never thought to highlight the bad parts on the body like this great idea I am sure this is the way to pros do it .. Just wondering Y you Rocket want to remove the 3rd brake light .... As far as Porsches go all are perfect even the ones that have rust or bent fenders and the like .... I am spoiled on these great cars..
and yes I just sit and look at the two of them and say to myself HELL YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then smile

Also check your tail lights...if faded at all , ask the shop to paint them with a couple layers of red.
Here are a couple pics of a Black 964 (no affil)...maybe it's too black, but it sure is a pretty car.

911jetta you are right that is one sweet looking car. I'm thinking of actually doing the opposite with the tail lights and getting them painted to look black but being as they are in excellent shape once again I am torn on the idea of even touching them. I will be doing the updated door handles and looking into the rear window and 3rd brake light. I keep getting torn back and forth because these cars are just so perfect the way they are. Especially when black is clean and looks wet all the time IMO. Thanks again and keep the ideas coming guys.

It would look stunning on a black car, as the lights would totally disappear until they were turned on! I've found the vinyl to be very durable and it also acts as an extra protection barrier for the lights ( from cracks, UV, etc.). If you use vinyl, instead of painting, you can peal it off in about 5 minutes if you don't like it.

911jetta thank you thats exactly what im looking to do now makes perfect sense and the look I want. Anyone have any leads on a rear window without the tail light box in it? or how I can remove that black stuff from window? As well as any 993 light+bar that goes on top of rear window? Thanks.

HEART TRANSPLANT
So after doing about 250 miles of driving I picked up a 1995 993 enige for my 964. Now I am in the stage of trying to get anything I might need for the transplant.

Updated pics.
Hope you guys enjoy. Any rust has been cut out sectioned and treated. now for any little dings or anything else before the rest of the car is taken apart.
