Default brake line upgrade

I am in planning on putting in a new suspension (Bilstein HD's and H&R Reds) in my car this spring and I am trying to get smart on the install. I found one excellent DIY page on the 964 UK site and they mention that when doing the suspension it is also a great time to update the brake lines to braided steel.

Now I do not track the car and have no plans to do so but I want to know if it is a good idea. If the answer is yes, what is a good brand to use. I'm looking on one high profile online shopping site and there are 'Racing' lines for $69 and then 'DOT' lines for $100. I have no idea what the difference is.

thanks!

Stick with the OEM, IIRC it was Geoffery Ring who said that Porsche Motorsport uses OEM brake lines on their 964 race cars, good enough for them, good enough for us.

Thanks! My 996 Turbo buddy said the same thing but I wanted to hear from the 964 crew.

I went with Goodrich hoses on my C4 when I went to big brakes and do like the peddle feel I have with them.

I'm trying to figure out what to do as well, stainless or Porsche. Pelican has a complete set of DOT lines for about $100 & change, the OEM lines were $98 an axle. The only thing I do know is the lines in car are 21 years old (legal drinking age) and they are a source of concern.

I did the Goodrich hoses as well, and had a lot of the "piping" in the areas replaced due to age and corrosion. To me, the feel is no different.

I too am about to refresh my brakes but the price looks like it should be $125 for everything with OEM lines.

Maybe one of the racing guys will hop on here but I think that for the road you cannot use the racing lines - I will try and look for what it was, kinda like not being able to use race slicks on the road - I'll get back to you.

I forgot what kind I got, I think I purchases them off of Pelican (no affiliation) and they have worked great - steel braided lines.

You can if they are DOT approved, but....

The bottom line per the link:
unless you are racing and plan to change stainless steel braided brake lines every season, stick with rubber OEM.

I went with the ECStuning Exact-Fit lines earlier this year. So far, so good. I'm happy with them.
