Fender without.

Fender with.

Buckets are steel, bonded into the carbon fender. We use steel to ensure a perfect, secure fit of the headlight.

Lots of fabrication work this week, starting at the front end. We've mounted the 964 oil cooler and aircon radiators into their stock locations in the front wheelarches, then started to add a large secondary oil radiator into the centre of the RSR bumper. Due to the close proximity of the 964 front panel more fabrication will be required to make air ducts in the boot aperture which will direct the hot air into the arches behind the side rads.

Unfortunately the late return of the 9m11RS shell from coating means that we're having to finish another fabrication job at the same time as working on the details of this build, however we are starting to make progress.

Owen finished the location & supports for the auxiliary oil cooler last week and has this week started working on the air duct to carry the hot air out from behind the cooler and into the LH wheelarch. Marc also sourced some stainless steel tubing and have been using it to fabricate new braces for the bumpers & wings in a similar style to the factory 964 & 993 pieces.

I drew the short straw as everyone else ran for cover.

The oil cooler looks like a used part. I would have thought that with the budget for this project, there wouldn't be too many re-used parts. How do you decide what to replace with new and what to reuse?

No point in using a new one in the fabrication shop as it would look very secondhand within minutes of coming out of the box. Don't worry, anything of significance will be replaced with new on assembly.

Cool

You are building one of my dream cars... all I can say...

Mine is soooo far from being done... and even at that, it will never have the level of details and finish of what you are doing there

You guys rock

Please do not forget about sending me the cost of the front fenders shipped to Orlando, FL 32828. I was being serious about that.

Do have some goodies here which could shave some weight of the build - ori plastic RSR door handles. No clue if they will fit - p/n 911.531.061/062 00 - let the specialists on this forum decide!

More work on the front end, this time boxing in the air outlet duct from the front mounted oil cooler.

The concept behind the duct is to utilise the pressure differential between the front end and side oil cooler to force feed air through both coolers. Obviously this will mean that the side cooler sees pre=warmed air but as the side cooler will be the first cooler in the loop, the net temperature difference will be similar to the front cooler so with the substancially increased volume flow the side cooler will still be very efficient.
