Removing Passenger Side Airbag
Hi gents, I'd like to remove the passenger side airbag from my car. I've done a search but have not come up with anything conclusive. Can anyone give me a detailed procedure?
Thanks in advance,
Dan

doruiacovescu, thanks for posting that thread. I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help in your case. It may not be possible without getting an entire wire loom, dash and air bag system from a later model car and trying to retro fit it. Basically starting from scratch.

I bought an airbag control unit, which has some wires on it and the airbags. Also bought the airbags doors. problem is with the frame under dash. Is not quite "bolt, plug and play" If you do have a picture of your passenger s airbag mounted into dash it would be very helpfull. Also i can not find the socket for the airbag control unit. I know it s there somewhere, because the wiring harnesses are the same, it does not matter the options installed.

Wow, you dove right in! After reading the thread and seeing whats involved in getting to the airbag I might just skip it and leave the 8 lbs or whatever in the car. Should I decide to do the job I'll be sure to take pictures of what you need.

Marc, appreciate the push down the slope. I have thought this through a little more and have decided to pass this mod. The reason being the next owner probably will want the air bags in the car. So far all the upgrades I've done to my car can be reversed without much effort. Taking apart the whole dash to get to this air bag sounds like a real pita for the sake of just a few lbs. I have no trouble taking things apart, just putting them back together again.

I just did this and will also replace the lower dash with a cover from Rennline. Will give me +10 kg in total so that's good, so now I'm down to 1200 kg. But another important reason for me to do this was that I don't want an old airbag system maybe popping when going hard on a curb on track or something. I'd be so scared if that happened so I'd probably go off and crash the car completely. The driver airbag is already gone.

Thomas, just to clarify things. I replaced my steering wheel and airbag with a Momo unit. I used a Porsche by-pass plug jumping terminals 3 & 4 in the air bag system. Doesn't this plug also disarm the passenger side air bag?

I don't know about the jumper, but I used a resistor as a replacement for the driver airbag which is another way of doing it instead of the Porsche jumper. The jumper maybe disarm both of them, I don't know but the resistor only "fools" the system so the passanger one is still active. I wanted this setup earlier, but I don't drive very much on the street anymore, and not very often passangers either.

Thanks Thomas, I too worry on the track about the gator strips triggering the air bag system. Its not unheard of. Can anyone confirm if the Porsche jumper plug disarms both bags?
By the way, love that car of yours!
