964 RS paint issue

964 RS paint issue
I am looking at buying a rubystone red 964 RS - 92. The car seems to be genuine with matching numbers. My concern is that in some areas where the paint is rubbed off (wheel houses and floor) it is showing a red colour beneath the rubystone colour. Did Porsche in this period use a red primer?
Does anyone have some advice here?
The rubystone paint does look original.

Its quite likely that Porsche did use a red sealer for this color. Typically traditional grey sealers will show beneath the reds and need to be tinted for coverage. Check for signs of masking in door jambs and behind door panels, etc. Good luck! I love this color.

Maybe someone out there actually has a rubystone red RS and can take a look?
If you pull out one of the rubber plugs in the luggage compartment, you should see the colour of the primer. Grateful for any solid evidence in this case.

I recall that pulling a front wheel liner first gave view to my (red) car's broad, feathered spray edge. And of the white primer(?) coat that lies everywhere underneath it.
Can anyone think of an easier access point to see where the factory naturally faded trailed off their final body spray.
(I'm thinking a repaint, unless done to exacting standards, might not so accurately trail off in the same area(s). Here, signs of more paint coverage than normal would tip the alert.)
Good luck. And that's a stellar color, if true!

it ain't barbie pink!!!
Hi,
I have the turbo variant, and the main primer colour underneath the rubystone on that car was a flat red fading to the black dull primer.
I know this as I removed the whole interior of the car and fitted a rs interior from southbound,so I have seen inside my front doors under the carpets etc.
The rest of the car ie,trunk inner engine bay area is all as good as the top coat of the car.
The floor underneath(outside) is flat rubystone colour in the shultz, but my wheel arch area is a black colour which matches the wheel arch liners.
My car is a 1992 model, but a euro model registered from new in Hamburg gmbh..
I have been told, but I don't know for sure that the turbo shell less quarter panels and sunroof of course was same spec as RS,as my 1992 has the small battery tray as the rs and same fuel tank layout.
I have a few mates with RS's and a cup car and similar good quality finishes in the same areas as mine.

Hi, thanks for all good advice here.
The sticker under the boot lid says L82N, which also is correct for the chassis number.
The information from "screamingflat6" gave some reason to belive that this car was actually painted with a red primer. Could you take the trouble of removing one of the rubber plugs in the side walls of the luggage compartment? There should be one or two above the ID tag. The rubber plugs were painted, so if removed you can see the primer colour ( I am just trying to make sure this car has not been through a body swap in its earlier life).
