Hi,
I am getting my cup one's on my red targa powder coated gloss black this week.
I want to either polish the whole outer edge or maybe just the lip.
Can anyone show me a picture of the two styles so I can make my mind up please.
Also if you have lowered your car on the h&r 40mm springs I could do with a photo of that.
Thanks,,,,
Gaz

I have debated going black on my cups as well. I think I'd rather go flat/satin as opposed to gloss to tie in with the Targa bar. Also, I heard powder coating can reduce the integrity of the metal and hide cracking. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Post #8 in this link will give you an idea of what a red w/black no polished lip would look like...https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ga-thread.html

Hi,
Thanks for the information,
Magnesium wheels cannot be powder coated so the 964 rs lads tell me.
The standard cup wheels are just regular alloy and a lot heavier and can be powdered.
The alloy wheels will be turned on a lathe for the polished edge, or rim look.
Thanks again,
Gaz.

Hi Thomas,
Your car looks great,I only want the polished rim bit done on the targa because I think it will give a classic fuch look.
I am putting black carrera's down the doors too,I want a little bit of retro on that car even thinking of a ducktail spoiler on the rear when I repaint it.
I will pass this targa on to my better half in a couple of years time, but I want a none sunroof coupe with a blown motor in the future so I can build a fancy rs replica with a monster engine.
Regards Gaz,,

Keep in mind all the examples of polished lips are done with paint, not powder. How would you polish the lip, or mask so it was clean during the powder coating process?

Hi,
Turning the wheels on a lathe will remove the paint/powder coat then mask the black up again and rattle can the laquer on the rim edge.
Hi Cobalt,
I think if the machine cost is too dear and they cannot guarantee not damaging the powder coat I think your idea is the best black'em and paint the rim edge a sparkly silver.
I hoped someone had a photo of a 40mm lowered 964 as if thats too high coilovers is my best direction.
Thanks everyone for your help

I just dropped mine at the shop this morning. I'm having two sets of Cup I's done... one in black and the other in silver. I found a company here in Atlanta (which came highly recommended) that will do them for $65/wheel including stripping off the old paint! I chose a semi-gloss black. i'll post pics when I get them back.
Good luck on your project!
