Hi All, a friend of mine had some work done on his UK RHD 993 whilst in Germany on a family visit. The work included an interior re-trim and a replacement windscreen. They cleverly replaced his rear view mirror with a left hand drive version, so he'd like to replace it...
My question is, has anyone ever removed one and if so any top tips? I've just had a quick look at my 964 and it looks like a simple stick on to windscreen effort, so a good tug would probably do the job! However, my heavy handed approach may not be the best advise!
The mirror arm slots down onto a catch that is bonded to the screen. In theory, it should just slide up and off, but I imagine it would be stiff and may require extract force. Not sure I would want to take a hammer to it near the windscreen.
When I changed the windscreen (to 993 version) the garage said it was no way you could remove the bracket and re-use it as a piece. So they put in a new 993 mirror instead because it's the same price (£60) and it looks a little better and is also a little wider. So buy a new 993 mirror instead!
Thomas, your right.
Both are cars have a 993 screen, so have a vag type rear view mirror fitment on the glass.
Ive got a curved boxster mirror, but any audi/vw/porsche mirror wil fit the 993 glass.
But i have no idea which glass pauls friends car has, so the i cant guess as to which mirror or type of fitment it may have. All vag group are not left or right hand drive, defo. Mayb they didnt fit a porsche mirror, mayb a golf or polo mirror which is a different but does fit.
Paul show me a pic and i bet i can help.
