Default Climate Control Unit Rebuid

Hello, I think I need to get my climate control unit rebuilt. As soon as I put on the heat, the fan stops and if you turn it back to cold it speeds back up. The window demister fan works intermittently but most of the time not at all. I've been told by my mechanic it needs to be rebuilt but I cannot find anywhere to get it done. It'd be great if someone on here could give me some advice. Thanks, Jon

check the wire wound resistor/relay in the heat tube.Does your ac work, if not check ac pressure at the compressor ports.

Rocket Rob: thanks a lot for that, will check that out. Although somebody in Europe would suit better, should have mentioned that but great.

Darth: Ok will do that, although mine doesn't have a/c.

Basically the issue is that everything works fine as long as the temp control stays at it's coldest, as soon as you start to turn the temp up (or hit demist) within about 3 secs the fans cut out and will only work again when temp is put back to cold.

If anyone has any other ideas as to what's causing this then that'd be great!

Thanks

Mine did this when i removed the blower motors from the rear of my car (my car is a turbo so this may not apply) when i put them back in it worked fine. It may have something to do with the resistors not being heated in the blower motor or something.... its a long shot but you may wanna check back there and make sure all is well. If im not mistaken you have just one blower in the engine bay.

My car had those symptoms once and the problem was a faulty rear heater blower. I suggest that you double check that the blower works both high and low speeds. Do you have access to a scantool or hammer? They can initiate the test for you.

I don't remember specifically but it was in that neighborhood for cost.

Rob thats great thanks. I'll have a look at the blower during the week. I thought my mechanic had a hammer tool but he never mentioned any fault codes. Anyway I'll check it out and see what happens. Thanks for the advice, will keep progress posted

And thanks Boeing, yes mine is just C4 SE so no turbo.

Otto's in Venice California did mine years ago for I think $325 or so- quick turnaround, no more issues with battery drain/fan running. I'd have to check my records if you need more info (or you can probably find info in a search for Otto's)

My car did the same thing - I tracked it down to simply a disconnected plug at the blower motor!

Sounds like your rear blower is not running at all. The first thing I would check is the fuse in the rear fuse box. If you find it's blown make sure you replace it with a 30 amp fuse (the original 25 amp fuse was replace by a Porsche TSB).

Thumbs up Update

Hi there, just an update on this. Went hunting last night and tracked it down to the fuse. So a very simple fix It still does that wheezing thing where you're driving along and its turned off but still blowing away whenever it feels like it, but I can deal with that. So thanks a lot to everyone for their help, made it a lot easier- thank you all.
