Thomas,

I sound like a broken record, but your car is beautifully developed. I see you finally stripped out the AC. That must have been a difficult decision given your appreciation for it.

Quick question regarding the RS/DME. Did you purchase a sealed factory unit and plug it in, or did you develop a chip and replace it in the stock DME?

Thanks, and again, WONDERFUL Car!!!!

Thanks for you kind words, glad you like it!

Yeah, the A/C was something to think about but what finally did it was a leak in the evaporator. It didn't feel right to spend money on replacing it, and 23 kilos and a clean engine room made the decision easy in the end. Summe heat isn't a big problem in Sweden either.

The RS chip: We used a tuner company to do the work but what we did was this. We uploaded the info from my friend RS car into the tuners software. Then told the software in what Bosch DME the RS-chip was supposed to work, meaning a C2 DME and not a RS DME. The tuner had all the different Bosch maps so it was easy to do. Finally we just downloaded this info in a new file and burnt a chip. You must do it like this becasue a chip designed for one DME doesn't work in different versions of DME-boxes. It did 264 hp compared to the 251 hp I had before and 17 Nm in torque. It also made the idle smother with my LWF and rev pick up from low revs is also better than before.

mpeters951,
great looking car, I like the RS rear spoiler. Have you noticed any changes in high speed behaviour after installing it? And could you please post some pictures of the the RUF rollbar installation?

Here's a pic. from when I was in my "sticker" phase (I've since removed them to re-consider the blank canvas once again...).

Weighed in at 2604 lbs. after a hefty diet by Jeff Gamroth last winter (all fluids, no driver). Have since added a Heigo roll bar (approx. 35lbs.).

That's a new an impressive low. No stickers is a good an adult thing. :-)
Ear plugs?

+1 on the stickers - looks much less try-hard without them. That car speaks for itself.

Airfan: No discernable change(s) to high speed behavior resulting from old school duck-tail. Not that I'd know, as I've only done ~ 20% of a DE weekend this year after having done the duck-tail install over last winter. I say "~20% of a DE" owing to OE clutch failure on track earlier this summer early on in the event. Of course that was just the excuse needed for more slippery slope upgrading that begot the 993TT pressure plate/RS Disk/LWFW parts now installed.

I keep looking for a conservative front lower spoiler/splitter that would effectively "balance" the look of the duck-tail. Thomas' CarGraphic piece looks very nice; I'd rather not use the Ruf piece, want to achieve a bit different look - like the TechArt or CarGraphic. Can we confirm a source for the latter ? Looks as though the Hong Kong eBay source is the only one left for the "TechArt" style, no ?

I am very suprised at the responses that I have gotten in this thread! Everyone in here has a beautiful car that I want to emulate in some way - thanks for the suggestions and inspiration. Hopefully in a few months I'll be able to add my own to the thread - though not near the level exhibited by some of these cars.

Keep em coming!

Noah - not sure about the ear plug question, but I certainly don't need them... yet.

John B. - thanks for the kind words!

And I agree with both of you on the sticker issue.

Regards all,

Dave

Mine was originally a 1989 C4 and the rebuild was loosely inspired by the simplicity of the 964 Carrera Cup cars, but with a bigger engine out back. This was basically a ground-up rebuild which took 12 months to complete, so I may have missed out some of the more detailed specs below...

Specs

Body
Completely seam welded
Sunroof sealed
Bare metal repaint

Interior
Stripped interior (curb weight ~1,150kg/2,535 lbs, 40/60 f:r weight bias)
Custom lightweight A/C
OEM Carrera RS windows (thinner glass)
Plexiglass front/rear quarter windows and rear window
Lightened wiring harness
Heigo half roll cage
Recaro Pole Position seats

Engine / Drivetrain
3.8l rebuild (dynoed at 355 hp at the crank, redline at 7,200 rpm)
JE Pistons
Carillo conrods
LN Engineering cylinders
CMW Motorsports heads
Custom camshafts
Turbo studs
PMO individual throttle bodies
Custom fuel pressure regulator
Custom oil catch can
Motec stand alone engine management system
Fabspeed "RSR" exhaust
OEM 993 G50/21 gearbox (6-speed)

Suspension / Brakes
Bilstein / H&R suspension (to be replaced with custom Motons in the future)
OEM 993 GT2 Evo wheel carriers
Adjustable front control arms
Adjustable rear spring plates
"Big Red" Turbo brakes
OEM 965 Cup wheels
C2 ABS controller
994 Turbo brake wiring harness
Foglight delete / brake cooling ducts

Thanks

It's the same orange as found on the 997 GT3 RS as well as the 987 "Sport" models, which is a much brighter shade of orange compared to Continental or the other more vintage shades of orange (which tend to be darker or have a reddish tinge to them).
