Default 1990 Porsche Carrera 2 Cabriolet

Greetings to all,

I just purchased a 1990 Porsche Carrera 2 and have many questions and projects already mapped out ready to discuss as I pursue them. I own a 2000 Porsche Boxster and after 90K miles, I decided it was time to step up to the 911 family and my first reaction was WOW.

I joined "renlist" as I was told this is the place for Porsche enthusiasts to meet and gather to discuss aspects of the car (repairs, suggestions, modifications, etc.). I'm attaching photo's of the car and the build sheet details of this ride.

The car has a 3.8L motor (recently completely rebuilt by GMG Global Group, in Santa Ana, CA.) it will be mainly used for Auto-X, and the occasional track use at Willow Springs. The build sheet on the car is quite extensive;

• 3.8 litre engine upgrade (3K miles on motor)
• PP engine chip
• Gearbox w/shortened 3rd, 4th, & 5th gears
• Factory limited-slip differential
• Porsche RS clutch & lightweight flywheel
• High-flow airbox + K&N filter
• B&B exhaust
• H&R Supercup suspension
• Strut tower brace
• F&R sway bars
• Front camber plates
• All metal suspension bushings
• Lowered 1.5 in. and rear track increased 1 in.
• DS roll bar
• Corbeau racing seats (both sides)
• Deist 6-point harnesses (both sides)
• Fire extinguisher w/floor mount
• Euro Meister 18" aluminum alloy wheels
• Extra set of Porsche turbo-twist 17" wheels
• 255 rear & 225 front
• Hawk brake pads
• High-temp brake fluid
• Stainless steel brake lines.

I like to do as many repairs as I can on my cars, the Porsche 911 is new and seems to have many nuisances that are particular to the breed, so my learning curve is huge. I've purchased some books already but I'm sure I'm going to need help and assistance from this forum to be successful. So, in advance I'd like to thank all those that assist and share information with others.

It has been a blast to drive around town. My first track day will be later this month at El Torro Marine Base, in Tustin, California with our local PCA Club, Zone 8, OCR Region.

Can you elaborate on "what Willis was talkin bout"????

Also, when I read your message about "turn that frown down" I was wondering what the heck you were talking about, then I accessed your links and realized "the frown"... Thanks a "million" as I thought it was an eye sore and thought I need to replace the entire front bumper to correct. Another project to add to my list.

Was this car in LA? I saw this on AutoTrader, but thought it was a fluke. It looks great. Lucky you!

This car has been for sale since January 2009, it was originally listed at $30K but the recession and desperation of the seller made it a very good buy. The 3.8L motor is awesome and the car runs great.

Good for you! I saw it, but it was on the wrong coast, and seemed too good to be true!
cheers!

“What you talkin bout Willis?” was the catch phrase from "Diff'rent Strokes, an 80’s television program.

Do you have any idea what kind of power the engine is making?

According to the build sheet, it's putting out 285hp without the "Chip" and the "Cat by-pass" installed. I'll have that verified at some time down the road. It's very fast, allot of torque, handles well, a real blast to drive.

I think it's deceptive, as this picture was taken at the top of the stairs leading to a patio and the angle has the Boxster first in the shot. LOL
