Anybody got an engine fan for a 91 3.6?
Speaking of that, are they all the same from 90-94, and will 993 3.6 fans fit?

I got a new one with the bearing from Sunset. There is also a change on the pulley with the new fan unless you have a TIP. I tried to find a used one but they are not much less then a new one with the new bearing already installed.

Not to mention - most used ones will have cracks/corrosion/pitting....

Thanks. and just curious as to about how much was it from Sunset?

And i saw all the different ones listed also. Not sure what the difference would be but I see M64 listed in the M pages, but not the last digits. Like M64.01, or M64.03, etc. anyone know what the difference is?

They are different, not just in part numbers. I went through this with my 964. IIRC it had something to do with the pulley and bolt spacing? All I recall is that the dealer told me I would need the whole sheebang with the fan.

the fan and bearing for my 91 TIP was 964-106-015-31 $414.81 This was 3 months ago. It took 2 weeks to get it.
I was told that the pulley halves would need to be updated but it turns out the update is to the TIP version of the pulley so mine didnt need them. The belt also needs to be the one for a TIP.

OK, thanks,... Mine is an early 91 model and to get a replacement fan, i have to get a new fan, Alt, pulleys, bearings, etc.. which is why it costs so much. Im thinking of going with an RS setup which would reduce some of the cost, but Im not sure which fan I could use at that point. Anyone know?

you dont need to replace the alt. The bearing comes with the fan and the pulley halves were less then $50 I seem to remember. Call sunset and ask them for sure.

"Not to mention - most used ones will have cracks/corrosion/pitting...."
So we are all running around with broken fans?

you really should look carefully. Mine started falling apart from corrosion and we dont have salted roads in Florida.

I don't know if this is unusual, but my old 964's fan cracked at the hub as opposed to the tips splitting.

Air pollution can be acidic and being near the ocean can also be a problem for corrosion.

We have customer that stores laminated metal/plastic materials in a warehouse about 1500m from a major seaport. They complained about oxidation. It was tracked back to the warehouse environment and how the materials were being stored. The problem was visible after 90 days of storage.

-02 is the pre 92 manual trans fans that is no longer available.
-31 is the new updated fan, or 93 and newer, or all Tips, all years.
-75 is an RS model.
-00 is the turbo model.
-21 is the turbo 3.6 model.

What I cant exactly find out, is what the difference is. With the update, you have to use the updated alt pulleys, which is the same as the stock Tip cars, but I'm guessing thats because you also have to use the updated belt, or the stock Tip belt, so it appears this update basically just changes from the manual cars style over to the Tip style setup. So, I don't know what the difference in the fan itself is, unless maybe its a pitch change on the blades or something, and the reason you have to get the whole update package is because of the different style/length of the alt belt, so by using an RS setup, if I go with a new part, all I need to buy is a fan. If I find a used fan ANY style fan will work!!

Geez........
