What would be the difference tween the RS and the 993 version? Mine is plenty stiff as is… I don't want to make the ride any harsher.

But put it into context. Yes they fail, after 15-20 years. The rubber mounts will eventually suffer the same fate but probably sooner. The ebay mounts have been known to fail within months, same for the Hamburg Technic crap. The pillows on the Wevo mounts have issues with longevity and often need replacing after a few years (more-so mileage related), etc.

The RS mounts use a stiffer rubber and less of it. They also weigh less but in doing so you lose the cap that keeps water from collecting in top of the mount. Actually getting water to pool in the mount pretty much requires a garden hose but it can be done. So just keep it in mind.

i used 996 or 997 GT3 mounts ... cheaper than the air-cooled stuff and slightly stiffer but not solid stiff
... so still nice for road use. I can recommend SD.

Nothing problematic about them, and they don't 'often fail' at all, they just wear out after 20 odd years

Hi all,
looks like my mounts are shot too. Could someone confirm that 993 Turbo mounts fit as well?
Price for standard 993 mounts seems to have skyrocketed, probably due to the increased demand as a result of this thread.

Thanks

David

Edit says: How about 996 C2 mounts? Would those fit too?

switched out the OEM 964 mounts Oct 09, got them from Sunset for $159 each. i suspect they will last quite a while. Before i bought them I asked a number of rebuilders about mounts, the responses were if you are not going to track the car dont waste the money on high speed sexy mounts. Although i have not tried solid mounts before but these do what they are suppose to do, and thats good enough for me.

Hi all,
This has got me wondering about my own mounts. I've never changed out engine mounts before. With that said, can someone spoon feed me the steps needed to make the switch? I do all my driving on the weekend and then it's only on the street (twisty mountain roads). I don't really want to have too stiff of a drive, so I'll probably go with stock 993 mounts.

Anyhow, I'd appreciate it if anyone could post some step by step instructions to making this switch.

TIA,
Heinz

I keep coming up with part numbers 993.375.049.06 when I look up the motor mounts, is this much different from 993.375.049.05 ?

Reviving an old thread: is the location of the motor mounts on a 964 engine the same on the 993? Said another way, are motor mount locations on the body and engine are the same on 964 & 993 engine and body?

I used aftermarket 993 from FCP euro who have a lifetime replacement policy that they actually stand behind even for wear parts. Mostly I'd never actually use it but for ez-swap high dollar parts like this, it made sense for me. Bolt on swap. Been there for a year and a half and seem happy.

So - I'm interested in replacing the mounts on my '90 964 and this seems to present a viable option. I looked at the FCP website above and noticed that part fits all 993 and 996 models EXCEPT it's not listed for the GT3. I guess it could be an oversight. More interesting is the factory GT3 mount is cheaper than the other 996 motor mounts (less than $200 each). NOW - what about using a factory GT3 motor mount on my 964???

False alarm - further investigation reveals the original GT3 motor mount was superseded with a new "part number" that is now over $400 each
