Default Thoughts on this car? 1991 964

Last year I came close to finally fulfiiling my ambition to get a 911 but after a couple of disappointing PPI's I got a little disillusioned so went from the sublime to the ridiculous and bought a restored 1969 Mini to tinker with. Now the Spring is with us and with it comes that Porsche itch again so I've started to peruse 964's and found this one local to me via a classified ad on E-B*Y

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

Curious to know what folk think?, the pics are'nt the best and the price seems a little strong but the seller is willing to take my Mini in trade so price adjustment is possible.

And if anyone wants a Mini here she is - all 38bhp of her

I would find out why the seat belt/air bag lights are on. The price seems high.

Good luck on your search.

The price seems a bit optimistic for this economy, that many miles, and the original engine IMHO. For that price I would at least expect him to pay for a ppi at a shop of your choice.

Looks pretty clean from the pics, but it's hard to say without a full PPI.

The seatbelt light should be on; the belt is not buckled, but I'm pretty sure the air bag light should go off 5 secs after starting with, or without, the seatbelt. My car is apart at the moment so I can't check. Seems worth looking into as Rob has suggested.

It appears that is has been overfilled with oil! The gauge is pegged at 8 o'clock on the temp dial. Unless the gauge is bad, that's too much oil.

There is a rubber cover missing on the driver's door light/buzzer switch. It should be black (rubber boot), not silver. Just a nit, of course.

Hope it works out for you. These cars are a blast!

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks guys - much appreciate the response.

re the warning lights - could it be that the ignition is on but the engine is not running? No doubt I'm missiing something....

The engine is running, if you look at the tach.

This may not be a big deal. It is a problem that gets seen now and again.

I would point it out to the PPI inspector and have them report back to you.

Some possible causes:
  • Clock Cold Solder Joints - re-solder both sides of the board
  • Front boot crash sensor connectors - clean and re-connect
  • Clean Accelerometers
  • Clean wheel sensors
  • ABS Relays
  • Alternator - if going bad may provide low charge and cause lights

I was also thinking of taking a look at this car. I saw this a couple of weeks ago on Autotrader for 19.5k. So I would assume that the price is negotiable. Here is the link to the dealer

'Own a true piece of automotive history with a 2nd generation Carrera...' ahhh, I see, and all along I though C2 meant something different...

Not sure what you're looking for in a car but here are 2 that just popped up in the area:

Perhaps it's not the airbag light but the spoiler light which should stay on until the car moves?

You should see the 'before' pictures - if it had been a horse they would simply have shot it

Default green is a tough color

green is a tough resale color...there were a few guys on the 993 forum who had a difficult time selling their green cars...same deal with a red mercedes sedan.

seems to me that car should be in the $16K range
