Default Has anyone added or had someone ad wide body flares to their 964?

Spring has hit, well here anyway in the past few days, so it's got me thinking about what to do with some of my tax refund.
I'm thinking about having a wide body kit added to my C4. I'm looking for any info on having this done & or where/who to have it done by.
Grateful for any tips & advice.
Cheers

I'm sure Dave Wilkinson will be along soon to help you out. He's done it. In the mean time, have a look at this:

Yes, as Paul says, my car has had the wide body treatment. Unfortunately (or is it fortunately) I didn't pay for it and may have done it a little differently had I have done.

The wheel arch flares are really thew tip of the iceberg because the other parts that need changing probably cost more than the flares themselves. The bumpers, rocker panels, sharkfins, trims and inner arch protections all need to change and to do it with factory parts is a LOT of money.

The conversion on my car was done using an aftermarket fibre glass body kit from Pro-9 and steel fender extensions from the same company. I have no inner wing protection. The aftermarket kit takes some experience to get fitted right - it not just like bolting on the factory parts.

I like the end result but sometimes I wish it was more "standard" looking - other times I'm pleased it's not!!

Regards

Dave

I've done it and it can be done a variety of ways including 930 wheel flares welded to your existing panels. Somewhere on Rennlist are pictures of how I did mine. Search for Racecar Project here in the 964 forum and you'll see the process.

I love your car, the only thing I would change, if it were mine, would be the body lines surrounding the intake hole on the rocker panel, I would have those removed so its just a smooth rocker with an intake hole, IMO I think it would flow much more.

I hope thats not offensive, I was just saying if it were mine, thats all bc it would make it much more "standard" looking, while keeping that widebody look

WOW!
I'm a big fan of your car (and of that body kit....)!

Tell me, are those side rockers, one-piece?

Millemiglia:

Thanks.

I don't know if the side rockers are just one piece or filler was used to fill in the seams. The Strosek body kit was added at the Strosek factory.

It certainly has a different look.

I wonder if the people at Strosek ever contemplated how they might address a problem with the oil pipes on the right side? I have a similar problem with the bonded rockers on my car and, in the event of a leak anywhere around the oil thermostat or the oil pipes forward to the cooler, the job becomes a fairly major bodyshop task. Not something I'm looking forward to.

Good point Dave, hope I don't come across any issues with the oil lines.

Hopefully the lack of KM's on my car will delay those issues????

It has less than 41,000 original kms on her and I have averaged less than 1,500 kms per year.
