jtucker, I know regulation in the US are clearly different to the UK and EU but a couple of points.

Over here putting anything greater than 55w dip/main bulbs is illegal and will invalidate insurance, you also have way more chance of getting pulled by 'ye old bill'. The relay solution? Ran that on my Lancia Integrale Evo, the lights on those are as bad as 964's, it made a difference.. just.

HID H4 conversions are very common here, I've put some in mine and they're way better than my 993 standards. I also put some in 964Russ, he was running 100w and by comparison the comment was 'WOW'. here is an view of the spread pattern https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...-hid-uk-2.html

And another on HID upgrade https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...d-upgrade.html

My 10c get the HID kit. FYI about about £90 here....

Putting HID bulbs in halogen housings is unsafe, bad for your vision, and creates glare for you and oncoming traffic. Do some research and you'll see what I mean.

There is not a single OEM application. If it was so beneficial, wouldn't car companies be the first ones to offer it?

Sorry iklo but your mistaken, I speak from experience.

Bad for your vision? H4's are bad for your vision and health!
Glare? I've had no issue and we have crap weather, ie rain - A lot
Car companies sell cars, complete ones. Imagine the grief they'd go through retro fitting?

And flatsix911 agrees..

You will blind oncoming traffic and they will produce glare so you will actually have decreased visibility. I wouldn't use them.
Incorrect ... HID lights can work exceptionally well in reflector housings if they have the correct cutoff shield and are aimed correctly.
Many OEM's produce reflector HID for Acura, MB, etc...

"Auto Express" that's about as credible as the National Enquirer..

Finally if they were a problem then they'd fail an MOT - Mind did not.

HID are illegal in Europe without self levelling ( and washers ) and if you weren't failed on the MoT, you were lucky and the tester lax. Personally, I am fed up of being dazzled by the damned things. I am sure it is great for the driver of the car that has them fitted but, it makes a hard time for others, including me. The OEM ones are bad enough with corner adjusting; how to throw light straight into the eyes of the driver coming the opposite way on a twisty.

None of the kits available are supplied complete by the big brands; they are put together from various sources. The big brands won't supply them as retro-fit kits because they are illegal, for very good reasons.

Default Dimmer RHS headlamp?

Gang,

Good thread. I am noticing my pass. side headlamp is a good deal dimmer than my driver's side one.

Is this an electrical/wiring issue, or simply something I can address by swapping out the bulbs?

thanks all.

I was looking into getting H4's for my ride, but as far as I can tell I would need new trim rings and I didn't want to deal with getting them painted (color matched).

Is it true you need new trim rings too? I have a '93 C2 Cab.

If you get the right kit the trim rings are included. Else, you can get them from Vertex for ~$50 (price may be old).

Then you can send them to Eric at www.bumperplugs.com for painting. They come primed black.
