18" Wheels need new hubs?

Only the 92 and later Euro RS and 92 and later Cup cars had aluminum hubs. We have been running 18" wheels with the aluminum hubs and have been running 18" wheels with the factory steel hubs. I believe the concern Porsche had with the 18" wheels was with the C2/C4 upright. The Cups/RS use the Turbo upright and 993 upright is aluminum of a different design.

- larger diameter wheels are heavier
- shorter, stiffer tire sidewall increases the effective spring rate
- lower profile tire generally has more lateral grip
The "approved" front uprights are lighter and reinforced in several areas, and the upper strut bolt is larger.

According to the Porsche TSB, only models that had 18" wheels standard or optional from the factory are "approved" to use 18" wheels. I don't know the complete list, but they all have improved suspension parts over a stock 964.
My car is an extreme example in that I have basically zero stock 964 suspension bits left, so I feel fairly comfortable tracking it with 18" wheels. At the other extreme, for a car that just cruises down to the local coffee shop on Saturday morning, put on wheels as big as you find aesthetically pleasing w/o changing anything else.
