Default Extended Wheel Studs

Where do most people get their extended wheel studs from? Does anyone have the measurements that are required/used?

I am trying to get some that are long enough to fit 20mm spacers or so. I would assume I need something in the range of 90mm length studs.

thanks.

Surely 20mm spacers will have their own studs?? TTBoMK only 5-7mm shims require longer studs - anything wider than that will have it's own studs so the spacer bolts to the hub and the wheel bolts to the spacer.

Regards

Anything over 10mm I would use a spacer. Otherwise you risk breaking the stud under load. The longer the stud, the easier to break.

I see.

I am just used to my BMW, and running extended studs. This allowed me to run whatever size spacer I wanted without worrying about extra parts/bolts/nuts.

To answer the original question, they are available in many lengths. Pelican Parts sells them up to 100mm long.

Whether they are safe or not is subject to much debate. I happen to run 24mm spacers on the rear of my track car. This is legal in the organizations I run with and I have had no troubles with the studs. I have broken a rear hub, though...

I have 55 mm studs on the rear so I can safely have 8 mm of spacer to prevent tire rub (stock studs are 45 mm).

I've put too many 100mm studs on turbo flared early cars to accomodate anything from 9 to 11 inch rear wheels to even remember. Never a problem. As Mark above, I've always used longer rear studs on the 964's to allow for massaging clearance issues.

The cup cars have long enough studs to accomodate 20mm spacers (as the 9.5x17 rear has a 65mm offset) - doesn't seem to have beeen a problem even when racing.
