Went to the Sunrise to Sunset Rally. Pretty cool event. Friday night there was a reception at the Porsche dealer with Derek Bell as guest of honor.
Saturday morning early breakfast and off we went.
A few photos from the event.
We felt sooo sorry for this guy... This was getting out of the hotel, in the first turn... that road was a 20mph section...
The owner of Hotel Isis had a reception at the end of the rally, very nice of her. I was humbled many times by her knowledge on race legends, tracks, etc...
At the end we were so tired that I forgot to take a photo of the sunset... it was beautiful.
Overall it was a great weekend with great folks to share along the way and some great backroads.
I learned it takes longer than I thought to build the ramp for my new lift.....especially if I forgot my friend borrowed my table saw and never return it!
I didnt drive either car this weekend. I built a outside of the pond biological filter for my fishpond this weekend. Makes it a lot easier to clean it when it gets all clogged up and the fish crap that it collects is great for the potted plants.
Marc have you tried putting your car up on the lift yet?
1st Porsche oil change this weekend. I learned I should have jacked up the rear of the car to avoid burning my arm on while trying to loosen the engine drain plug!

Why did I flash to DougandJulie's avatar when I saw that first pic of you & whatshisname? lol
You could have worse photo opportunities, I guess...

Miss the days when we had sorta organized leisurely tour overnighters out here. We had a lot in Arizona when I was there 20+ years ago. Now there's really no reason to take a car out unless you're strapping a helmets, HANS, and suit.

LOL My look would have been different with that girl in that avatar... But, I have to say, I felt like a kid at a candy store. You have to get the next CAR magazine with Derek testing a line up of Porsche. He went on to share the test drive of the new GT2 and we were all laughing when he said that the journalist turned green... even worse when they get back to the pit and the camera man tells them that the system was not working and they had to do it again (at which time he went even faster).
So what did you learn over the weekend? not much car stuff for me as I was busy behind the camera all weekend.
After finally taking my car out of hibernation, I quickly realized that the AC system is not up to the task of Southern California heat. Perhaps I have a stuck servo or something since I felt heat coming from under the dash on the driver side. It was a beautiful drive nevertheless and an older couple with a 997 C2S came over and admired the roadster when I stopped for grocery. The 911 design is simply timeless.
I learned that accelerating rapidly from a stoplight directly onto a freeway entrance ramp, with nary another car in sight, and backing off right at the speed limit, is grounds for reckless driving in Houston.
Fortunately I was let off with a stern warning...
I also had a beautiful silver 993C2S pull up beside me, and I thought...how in the heck do his tailights have such nice red color while my new ones are still pink!
