Default Engine Tin Question

I just purchased a set of 993 engine tin from Ebay for my 1990 964. Are the engine tins inter-changeable between the two models? The Ebay says it is but I have some doubts.

Thanks in advance

They will physically fit the 964, but the shape is for the 993 engine compartment, so it won't seal perfectly. I have a set of 993 tin on my race car.

are the tins really necessary?
I have heard that they aid in cooling, but to me it looks like they just may block hot air rising from the heat exchangers.

Exhaust manifolds are red hot at the same time the engine needs cooling. The tin baffles are essential.

Yeah, that exhaust manifold is not painted red so the tin is required to keep the engine cool!

The engine tins serve 2 purposes, first they keep road debris out of the engine compartment, and second, they seal the engine to the chassis so the cooling fan is more efficient. I would not run without them, even on a race car.

Having looked at the relevent PET diagram, am I right in thinking that the tins are described as 'engine covers'? There are also 'engine capsules' on the diagram which look to be the fibreglass pieces attached below the 'engine covers' which then fasten to the undertray.

I guess the capsules are for protecting the engine from road debris rather than acting as heatshields but does anyone run with out these bits like many us do without the undertray?
