So what engine oil are you now using?

I use Brad Penn as long as I have owned the car. I noticed no differences in performance or feel. The car seems like it might get up to temp a little faster but that could just be placebo syndrome. Everything else is about the same. I noticed more difference changing my tranny fluid.
Im about to change mine as I have no record of it ever having been done.

Actually, you were the one I was hoping for a response from!! I can understand your response though :-)
I didn't want to get into a new discussion of oils as this has been done ad nauseum, the problem is the oils recommended tend to be available only from part time suppliers or not at all in my area. I want an oil I can reliably buy anywhere I am and I don't want to stockpile again.
My question more concisely: do you know what Mobil means by their trade name "Supersyn"?
Does it mean more Ca based detergent or an improvement in synthetic base stock?
If an improvement in the base stock, I would want the gold capped "Extended performance 15-50, if just more Ca detergent I would want the silver capped 15-50 product, correct?

What would be more interesting to me than oil preference would be owners relating engine wear beyond the normal or complete failure, quantified by a competent builder, due to the wrong oil.

In tear down and maintenance of those engines, which have all used Mobil 1 15-50 red cap formulation, I have been impressed at the lack of wear and cleanliness of the engine inside after many hours of use. I never have had an engine fail mechanically.
One time I had an oil line rupture at the track and managed to drain my 914/6's oil supply to the track surface, so I spun in my own oil. The engine had no oil pressure for a short time and when I took that engine apart the only abnormal wear was on the thrust surface of the flywheel main bearing which I think occurred when I held the clutch in as I stopped the car during my spin.
I hope the latest formulations of Mobil 1 can match my experience so far with their products.

Using Motul 300V Racing oil in my Rennsport Systems, Rothsport built 3.6 RS. Pure synthetic esther oil.
Amazing stuff with all the goodies, and the innerds of the motor still look brand new.

Cupcar,
Thanks for that. One data point. Appreciated.
But to my original post, I'm still waiting on those who have switched from x oil to y and report: 'No problems in ~1500 miles.' Really? Junk science. I'm still waiting to hear from engine builders. Thousands of viewers here. Let's hear of all the engine failures due to verified wrong oil and put it in perspective.

The "best" you are going to get here is anecdotal data.
Sounds like you are looking differences in wear characteristics as a function of motor oil selection. It is not going to happen here.
If you search forums you will find that this question takes on semi-religious overtones. You just have to believe.

If you ask what engine builders are using, those in the know are going to say Swepco or Brad Penn, including Jerry Woods, Steve Weiner (Rennsport Systems), and many others.
Although you're not going to find it on this thread, I myself have done actual testing to look at differences in wear characteristics between different oils and have been aided by other engine builders with on the road and on the dyno testing of different oils back to back. Most of the results are posted on my website, but forwarned, it's a big read.
I'm not saying that you have to run Brad Penn (or any other oil for that matter); we've found a good selection of oils that do the job equally, but the price spread can be as much as 300% between the lubricants and for the most part, all of them aren't found at your FLAPS and won't be any time soon.
