Changed a month ago to Royal Purple 20W-50 synth, after extensive readings. So far so good.

I've been using the new Castrol Edge 5W-50 "for Classic Cars" since October of last year..it's been working great, i liked it better than the 15W-50 in the winter, seems to be doing well now that it's heating up..made several longer trips (2-4 hours) and no issues

Motul 300V 5-40....the best ever result for 911s in my opinion, used over 4 years, great results and reduction in engine noise, since used in car with short drives and less than 800 miles/year, this double ester oil resists dilution from gas better than others.

+1 in 300v, but 15-50.

Brad Penn for the past 6 years, but just gave the new Castrol 5w50 Classic car oil a try. Seems ok so far and is purported to have good levels of ZDDP. Would have stuck with Brad Penn but the local distributor had just sold 10(!) cases of BP the day before I wanted to change my oil, depleting their supply.

I've been using Amsoil 20W-50 Racing oil for the past 10 years. Not cheap, and I'm hoping that I get what I pay for.

Reminds me that I'm due for an oil change.

So as I am new to 911s I took the last couple of hours research the proper oil for my car.
A lot of people back home in Germany use Castrol TWS 10W-60 in their cars (as I did all of the years in my Euro M3).
Here in the states Brad Penn and Swepco seem to be very big in the game.

After reading the following test, I tend to go into the direction of Castrols 5W-50.
The ZDDP/ zinc levels are higher as the ones of the Mobil1 15W-50 (something that we actually want in our kind of valvetrain setups) and I also prefer the lower inital viscosity as I am living in rather cold Washington state.

Maybe you give me some input about my conclusions.

Here is the test:

Sounds good to me, if you are using your car at temperatures below -10 C ,
Otherwise you may experience some little oil drops ...
I use 10w60 Mobil 1 , climat here is hot, between 0 to + 35 C

Hi Konstantin,

I got actually quite confused by the nower days Porsche qualified oils.
I just looked up my owner's manual and they suggest 10W-20W oil for our climate.
So the search starts all over again.

Can you tell me about the zinc level of the Mobil1?
