Default GT3 gearbox into 964/993?

Got to ask: Has anyone ever fitted a cable change GT3 gearbox into a 964 or 993?

Simple reason is that I have customers with 964RS's who are looking at upgrading to a 993RS gearbox but the price of these is way more than an equivalent 996GT3 box, hence the obvious question. I know the front mounting is different so we may have to use the 993 nose section and that we would have to fabricate some sort of mounting for the gearlever (maybe even make a billet item), but is there anything else that I am forgetting? Are the cables about the right length?

Kelly Moss Racing installed a cable shifted box into the "Bit Blaster" car which was one of their KMR RSRs that was fitted with a GT3R watercooled engine and trans. I believe that they said that cables had to be shortened, or remade which would make sense given the wheelbase differences between the 996 and 964 chassis. Other than that, I would think you could replace the cover and go.

We've all been drunk before... we understand. I hope it predated the Interwebs or there would be pictures and video online.

here is one for comparison

note that the speed in gears is not comarable because of tire and rev differences

Colin, Paul Mclean has fitted a Hollinger Sequential Gearbox from a 997 Cup (I think) to his 993 GT2R...may be worth a call!?

I was talking to him at the Silverstone Classic last year and he said he had to get some parts fabricated to get it to fit. Pretty sure he said Porsche told him it wouldnt go in when he ordered it but he is racing with it in his GT2R in the Open.

Wrecking more heritage Colin - shame on you. Tell them to keep all of the original bits so a prospective buyer can restore the sanity.

I have asked the guy who built my last car and he said it'd work as I am looking to do an entire transplant of a GT3 engine and gearbox into a 964 RS clone.....I'm think'n it'd be as fun as my 964 w/the 993TT engine....

Erm, aren't we the ones preserving the heritage of the 964RS & 993RS models by building more Clubsports and re-shelling accident damaged & break-only RS's into 9mRS's?

The gearboxes are actually required to fulfil orders for two more 9m64RS Clubsports which are being built to the customer's specifications.

apologies for the ancient thread bump ... Colin or anyone else - done this into a 3.8 964 yet?

I just measured the two boxes - from engine edge of bellhousing to front edge of box (where the rod is on the 964) and surprisingly the GT3 box seems to be 30mm shorter ie 964 gbox = 790mm and GT3 box 760mm.
