Cam specs and info
I'm trying to get some more info on the cams I have (in my 3.8) which are Porsche Cup part No 993 105 246 70 & 993 105 247 70. I've tried searching here and on the net and obviously not been looking in the right places yet.
Any info regarding spec, duration, description etc would be appreciated, or pointers/URL's of where I might find the infomation would be great.
thanks

Thanks for that info Bill,
I was told they were "sports" but I was unaware of where they came from!!
Given that the GT2 is turbo, and they currently reside in a n/a 3.8, does anyone have any thoughts or comments on the application and suitability. Is this a normal application for these cams or would people recomment others (not that I'm looking to change them) and has anyone else used or had experience of them?
I does seem to go very well

A friend recently sent me a dyno chart from a 3.6l engine that was stock other than having GT2 evo camshafts (Bill, are his the Evo version, or just the GT2 version?) and the powerband was very flat. I was surprised because I would not have used the cams in a N/A engine, but in the case of his dyno chart, it was nice and well usable.

His cams are the mechanical profile turbo race cams.
I mistakenly posted this "intake duration 116, exhaust duration 107"
the lobe centers are 116 and 107
duration is a tad more than the n/a RS hyd or SS mech. lift is roughly the same w/ a little more on the exhaust valve than used on the n/a sport cams.
It will idle a litle lumpier and perform well in a n/a engine

Check out Andial's web site for the cam information you are looking for;
http://www.andial.com/content/mahle/newcamshafts.htm
The cams you have are 993 Euro Sport for non hydr lifters. All of the specs are listed on the web page. They offer a little more duration and lift then stock C2 cams.

Thanks for the link Dave.
Noah, these cams run fine in my 3.8 n/a. Don't notice any idling issues (other than lwf stalling but you soon get used to and drive round that), and pulls like a train with no let up, at least to 6800.

I think my 9M cams are around 310 deg duration.....which makes for a very lumpy idle....no stalling issue really, I think it has stalled once when very cold and once when very hot in the last few months. Idle seems to be arund just under 1000rpm on mine up from the usual 840 or so on a standard car. Mine also seem to perform well but if one floors the accelerator in any gear above 1st at under 2500rpm then there is occasionally some 'jerking' (technical term) so you quickly learn to feed the power for a split second to avoid that. No problem.

Andials lobe center spec disagrees w/ factory specs for those cams which is what I posted
the MY 97 used the RS 113/113 lobe center w/ the earlier duration and lift to eliminate some overlap and improve cylinder filling on boost.
Bill,
Are you speaking from experience(I believe you're presently running RS cams?), or another tuner's knowledge? If the latter, who?

yes, I have the RS cams on both my 3.6 and 3.8 the 3.8 idle is better, it's not big but when you do back to back it's noticeable. A friend has SS on his 3.6 again the idle sufferes a tad, nothing objectionable but if you do back to backs its there. The SS definitly breather a bit better than RS the difference here is not huge either but...
Where is your information coming from?

Could you put up the dyno chart? I'm interested to see the curve.

I can't, I've been asked not to. I think there are better cams than the GT2 Evo cam for a 964. The GT2 Evo camshaft may have issues with the CIS fuel metering system, I don't know since I've never installed them in a car without MoTeC.
