993 to 964...why and why not?

I haven't read what everyone else has written but I would say that there are hardly ever any reasons to prevent you from doing something that you want to do. Sure, we would discuss pros and cons but these are all subjective and would be meaningless. Ask yourself why you want to do it, and then make it happen if you decide thats the way to go. The only thing I *am* going to say though is: you probably don't want to do anything for financial reasons......a car is not a financial decision, it comes from the heart no matter what your brain is telling you
Good Luck!

I would have gone for a 993 8 years ago if my budget had allowed. Very happy that I got the 964 although I still think the 993 is very handsome car. The 993 Twin Turbo S with the extra bhp and scoops in the rear arches is on my dream list.
As said earlier though, stick with air cooled and you wont be far wrong, which ever model.

In the end (well, it was just the beginning...), I feel I was really lucky when I found and purchased my 964. This is my first Porsche, and I really was not looking too hard for one. This one just came up for sale in my company classifieds. Tested it with the spousal unit, and the rest is history.
It has the classic looks, with improvements. It fit my budget (well, I had to sell my hot rod); and I probably could not have afforded a 993. IF I were to change to a 993, it would be a C4S with the widebody - that is one good looking car.
Otherwise, I think the 993's look just a tad bit gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that... I am NOT trying to offend the 993 guys. I just can't think of a better way to describe it. Perhaps I was put off by a "tuner" example locally, that really did look gay. There is just something about the look of a 993 that is not as mean and manly as the 964.
Opinions. Just like a*sholes. We all have them.
Most of all - drive it and enjoy it.

I though he was talking about being tempted by the Spa Packages and Gift Certificates!
In all seriousness that little 993 does look pretty slick. Are those 18's?

I decided to get both, I still can't decide which I like better. I bought the 964 to see if I would like Porsches. A year later, I became attracted to 993's, so I picked up a 993 Coupe. I thought I would like the 993 so much I would give up the 964. I found I like them both for different reasons. On some days, I take the 964 Cab, on other days, I'll drive the 993 Coupe. I hope I never decide which I like better so I can justify keeping them both.... Find a well maintained car, do a PPI, then buy it. Spend more time picking a color and deciding on a Cab or Coupe. You will fall in love with the car you buy if you choose a good one. Wait for your color and body style, don't buy one you really don't want no matter how nice it is. I turned down some fabulous cars because I didn't want to settle on color or style I wasn't crazy about. Your first probably won't be your last. Good luck and enjoy the hunt.

Well, in CA, porsche's are a dime a dozen. 993 is certainly not in the league of rich guy driving car. At car meet this weekend, saw 997 turbo cab and 997 gt3rs. now those are pricey rides. I see ferrari, garage queen. Personally, I bought the 964 Cab for style and not performance. 993 is a little bit better driving car.

Who cares about 20hp? You can't even feel the difference. It's mostly cosmetics!
