993 complete front end assembly
I have a very technical question for those in the know. I picked up a complete 993 front end with hubs/caliper/strut assemblies, steering rack, master brake assembly and am wondering if it will bolt up underneath my 93 964. My thoughts were to ask if anyone has upgraded their front suspension this way and got the brakes to boot. So far without dropping my frontend some of the measurements appear to be very close to being the same.
If the entire assembly will not bolt up can I use just the front hub assembly getting me the 993 brake calipers without the need for special rotors and adapters.
thank you all who respond.
Jim

The entire assembly will bolt up assuming you are not trying to switch vaccum brakes to hydraulic boosted brakes or vice versa. The subframe is essentially the same and the rack is essentially the same, but the inner/outer tie rods are different, but can be swapped as a set between the racks.
You cannot use the 993 hubs without the 993 stuts since the aluminum hub carrier is 1mm thicker than the 964 steel hub carrier so the 964 strut will not physically fit.

Geoffrey - does that mean I can use the front 993 strut/spring? do I use the 964 spring for the correct ride height? You are wealth or knowledge. thank you. Jim

You have to use a 993 strut on the 993 hub carrier. I honestly don't know what the valving is of the stock part, nor do I know if the stock 993 spring is the same rate as the 964 spring. However, I would say try the 964 spring on the 993 strut as I would imagine the shock valving is similar and if it doesn't fit (I believe it will fit fine - just a guess) then use the 993 spring. I don't think you will significantly notice a difference either way.

Geoffrey - I am still looking for a used 993 G50/20 bellhousing if you have any leads let me know.
My front steel 3.6 flat nose fenders are being made now, but the file size is too large to post. My goal this year is to get the body work done and start on the mechanical. Jim
