Default Big red install problem...

I have 993TT calipers, correct part #'s C2 965 turbo discs, all from vehicle craft. I bought some used caliper adaptors that came off a big red install.

Car is a '90 C4

Here is the problem.

I bolted the adaptors to the hub, no problem. Screwed in the rotor, all ok, everything sits flush to the mounting surfaces.

I offer up the caliper, without pads in and the bolt hole don't line up with the adaptor plate. The caliper bolts are 1/8" further inward than the holes in the adaptor plate.

I have tried switching plates around in case they are sided, still the same problem. I have taken the rotors off, put them back on, they are on the correct sides.

Still, the caliper bolts don't line up.

Has anyone had or know of this problem?

I called Doug at Vehiclecraft and he is going to send up a set of adaptor plates he said he knew would work.

I was curious how different are the adaptor plates out there? I would have thought they were all the same, but I guess that depends on the rotor used, if there are different thickness, offsets on rotor sets. Does anyone know the different rotor combinations that could fit on a 964?

To me, it seems the disc offset is out, or adaptors are not right somehow.

I have had a look at the installation pics posted here and I can't see anything wrong with what I'm doing.

Any advise anyone?

Mark

Links don't seem to work. I'm thinking there are different adaptors for the different rotor options.

I can't really tell you part number on bracket since kit was on the car when I purchased it. Kit came from Racer's group and rotors are 965....... Sorry it doesn't say bracket number on bill of purchase.

Always try to buy kits instead of making your own. Good luck!!

Although I don't need this info, I would be nice if we would be able to understand (read).

what I meant by the pictures is that there are several brackets that fit the caliber but are not the one you need, so I think the one's You will get by post will fit perfect.

Maybe this will be of some help. The adapters are from FVD.

I think the problem is the width of the rotor / disc. There must be several options with adaptors to fit the right discs.

Thanks

Right then, I fiited exactly this set up last Friday and had exactly the same problem with the FVD adapters - after some careful calculation, we worked out that the adaptors had to have 4.5mm milled off them to make everything line up. Like you've noticed, the caliper is too close to the inboard side of the car. I also had to fit wheel spacers to stop the wheel fouling the caliper. Will post a pic as soon as I find my camera lead.. Ran around for about 50 miles today to bed in new discs/pads, brakes feel much better than standard.

The part# for my front disc's are:

965 351 045 00
965 351 046 00

I had no problem with my FVD adapters.

Here's a picture, unfortunately you can't see the adapter!

So FVD has the adapters? Are you guys just upgrading the front brakes or are you doing the rears also? If you are doing the rears what modifications are needed to the 965 brakes to make them work and where did you find 965 rear brakes? Also anyone changing out their M/C or reservoir?

If you do the big Red front you also need to do the back

965 rear calipers want a 28mm thick rotor, the only available 28s for normal 964 don't have the parking brake provision.

to retain the parking brakes you keep the stock size 24mm rear rotors(either 964 or 966 versions) and use a 993 rear caliper which has the bigger 30/34 pistons as used on the 965 rear and wants the stock 24mm rotor
