you can also put a 2 mm washer between the rear 965 caliper and the hub to center the caliper over the rotor.

to retain the parking brakes you keep the stock size 24mm rear rotors(either 964 or 966 versions) and use a 993 rear caliper which has the bigger 30/34 pistons as used on the 965 rear and wants the stock 24mm rotor
Bill,

From now on I will just PM you. You always have the answers.

Don't worry I won't bug you.

The brakes on my C2 are fine I just happen to have a set of spare big reds with pads and a set of new front rotor I paid $500 for everything. I figure I might do it since I am half way there even though they are not needed.

How would the brakes work and feel with the C2's smaller M/C and vac assist vs the larger M/C and hydraulic set up in my turbo?

Hi Mark, just want to post my experience.
Recently I bought a big red setup that came of a 964 C4, like mine. The only thing missing was the adaptors. Without further investigation I ordered the blue ones from FVD. When I tried to install the parts I found that the caliper missed the holes in the adaptors by approx 3 to 5mm. Then I checked the rotors which had the part numbers 993 351 045/046 which turns out to be 993RS rotors. Further I went to my local "pusher" and compared them to stock 964 turbo 3.6 rotors. Very easy to see that the 965 rotors are approx 3 to 5mm "deeper".

...my two cents...

Hi Guys,

I have had the Big Reds on my car for over a year now and absolutely love them. My kits both front and rear came from Race Technologies in So. Cal. Everything bolted up without incident and I have not experienced any problems. As was said earlier if possible purchase a complete kit rather than try to piece one together. Good Luck to all who attempt to make a bunch of random parts work, it can be done but is harder and you have no real resource if something does not fit.

I'm sure the adaptors are the problem, guess I will find out when the new ones arrive. It could be the adaptors I have are for 993 discs and not 965, which are a few MM wider, which would cause the problem I have.

Thanks

part number 965.351.045/046 are the turbo 3.6 part numbers the 993TT and 993 rs rotors have a different offset

The Race technologies kits were the best available, unfortunately I don't believe that they are available any more.

They are useable w/ just watch the reservoir and keep it full.

The 23.8mm vacuum boosted 993 or 25.4 mm electro hyd boost system would be better. I very much prefer the latter.

Mark,

The adapters you have came from a Race Technologies kit and worked great for me, it a shame this is turning out to be such a problem. I sure sounds like a difference in the rotors I used versus what you are using is the issue. I'll try to track down what rotors I had/have.

Tom,

I'm sure its the rotors. I'm getting a set of adaptors they ensure will fit the rotors I was sent.

No worries

Hi Southampton76,
I have the big red calipers (993TT) up front and 993C2 rotors but no adaptors yet....so If you went for other adaptors (to keep the 965 rotors) then it will interest me.
Thanks.
Michael.

Cheers
