Default 9m 4.0 litre high lift - 450hp & 400lbft at flywheel - in stock 964RS!

Well, here is the dyno graph that we have been working towards, the first ever pull of our 4.0 litre race engine with the new 9m high lift camshafts, DLC billet followers and valve spring package which runs around 15mm lift on the intake valve and 14mm lift on the exhaust in comparison with the previous version of the cam with stock followers that was limited to around 13mm lift on each. Also shown is the previous best run of my 993RS Championship winning engine from 2006, which is a 3.8 engine using the same heads, pistons and cams as the 4.0 litre low lift but with stock 993 headers and 100 cell cats (the 4.0 litres are being run on headers and straight through silencers).

I think the dyno curve says it all, really, so please enjoy the prospect of my customer on March 16th trying to drive over 380 n/a rwhp in his otherwise stock 964RS.

I am popping back to the UK at the end of the month for a quick visit. Do you think I can take one of these engines back with me (hand luggage??)

Well done, Colin. The great thing is that you can actually put it into a stock 964RS because the base car is good enough.

I'll be at Oulton that day, looking forward to seeing that thing go - no doubt from behind!

Thanks Geoff. The inlet system is our high butterfly individual throttle body set up with the injectors high up under the throttle plate. At the moment we are running them with simple foam filters over the top of the intake horns, but this weekend's job for me is to make the pattern for our new carbon-fibre centre/bottom fed airboxes. And of course I am running the engines on a Motec M48 ecu, the same system and injectors that we use on the stock 964RS 9m Motec conversion.

Turbo power indeed. As a matter of comparison we loaded a run from a 965 3.3 turbo with headers & ballrace turbo that we built & dyno'd last week - up to 6000rpm the two runs were nigh on identical, from 6500 up the 4.0 litre left the turbo standing.

Simon, if you can pick one up with one hand I'll build you a 4.0 litre to take back with you! You're right about the RS handling the performance, or at least it did when we ran it at the end of last year with the standard lift cams. The only issue is that the car deceptively rolls a lot of speed on as a result of the flat torque curve and you arrive at bends a lot faster than you think you will, so the package needs respect with a capital R.

One question that does spring to mind is whether you need special engine mounts for that power?

Colin,
Those are outrageous numbers, 100 HP/L is considered very good.

Colin, ever thought of moving to Florida?
I can arrange for your papers, using the fact that there's no one else in the USA who can do what you do.
Easy entry and working visa.
I can promise you one thing.....You will be very busy! Chris

Don't tempt me, if Florida had snow in the winter and no gators I would give it more than a little consideration!

I have to correct you though on your comment that no one else in the USA can do what we do. OK, maybe no one shop or engine designer has the depth of understanding that we have to manufacture their own cranks, rods, pistons, heads, cams, valves, followers and intake, but that said I would argue that anyone who can build a 911 engine can achieve exactly the same result as us (provided they have the capability to tune Motec) by simply purchasing the same parts from our catalogue and assembling them correctly. The performance of this engine results from adopting a synergistic design approach which we planned from the get-go, you would simply not achieve the same by buying the parts from other suppliers and expecting them all to work together. Don't get me wrong, it would cost around £25k to buy all the 9m parts that went into this engine but if you want the best there is like several of my customers have already demanded, this is probably as good as it will get in the near future since we will soon be focussing our attention to finishing the new 993 turbo head and also making pistons & cylinders to match the crank and rods so that we can build a 500hp 4.2 litre GT3 road engine.

We are seeing 505rwhp 330rwft/tq from the 3.6l 996GT3RSR sprint engine in factory trim, unrestricted with factory programming. I'd think that you could improve on that.
