Question anyone pass CA smog with a non-stock cam?

I am curious if any CA residents with 964's with a non-stock camshaft installed in their engine have successfully passed california smog checks to register their cars. More helpful would be someone with a C4, because C4's don't need to do the treadmill test!

Thanks

I just got my C4 about 6 months ago. It passed Washington Smog test with flying colors. The bad part was that the person running the test told me that I had to do the treadmill test and proceeded to run the test with only the rear wheels on the rollers. The whole time the lights on the dash were one (maybe flashing) and the beeping that sometimes happens when the brakes are pressuring up when you first start was going the whole time.

I am still upset after I found out that was totally wrong of them. What potentially could this have done to my car? Why didn't the front tires pull the car off the rollers?

Thanks

"Why didn't the front tires pull the car off the rollers?"
Because you are the luckiest person in the world .

I was not driving it. The idiot attendant made me let HER do it as it is all wheel drive.

But you are right if it did no damage I am the luckiest person in the world.

I understand , you had to sit there and watch some dope mess with your car .
What really should have happend was your car all the sudden jumps forward and gets stuffed into whatever was in front on it . That it didn't is why you are "luckiest person in the world" .

The stress put on the parts of the drivetrain was great , I am sure it was not good for the car .
I would put the whole thing in writing and send in a formal complaint .

My C2 zips right through Dallas test (same as CA) with big cams and no cat every year. Did not believe it would the first year so put the cat on...next year went without the cat and ever since. My car has 993 cup cams in it and idles like a pack of Harleys. Pretty amazing

Steve - I am surprised it passed with no cat!!! Do you happen to have the accepted readings for Dallas for HC, NOx, CO2, and O2 (and whatever else is on that form)?? I'd be interested to see what Dallas permits, and also what your car produces to see if it would pass here! You might save me from doing the biannual catalytic converter installation!!! And might convince me to change cams!!! Yee haw!

Last test, no cat: High speed(25mph) / low speed(15mph)

HC(PPM) std 157 reading 88 / std 162 reading 61
CO (%) std 1.00 reading .67 / std .91 reading .65
CO2(%) reading 14.1 / reading 14.2
O2(%) reading .8 / reading .8
NOx(ppm)std 1121 reading 986 / std 1227 reading 1161
Dilution std >6 reading 14.8 / std >6 reading 14.9

Wa Smog testing is not done on C4's - you had a really dumb person runnign the test. basically they do a tail pipe sniff and let you go since you are not ORBII.
My car passed WA smog with an RS engine (and cams) and weltmister chip.
Also CupCar 964 has passed Ca Smog testing so it can be done.

I passed CA smog with super C2 cams from dr camshafts aka dougherty racing cams. I also had a primary bypass, but the cat and secondary were still in place. I don't have my numbers handy but it would be interesting to compare to Steve's. For all I know my 16-17 year old cat may not be doing much of anything.

thanks Cupcar. Only I feel like the dumb one but I can honestly admit for the first month I was in a first Porsche stuppor after waiting 30 years to be able to afford (39 if your curious). Plus I had just endured a 14 hour straight solo drive from California to collect her.

Sorry to hijack your thread Garrett. It still hurts that I allowed that to happen to her.

With cat in place I think the car would pass with cams and even a chip. The cat really sucks it up...

My former 85 Carrera passed CA smog with SteveW chip, SSI's, Monty and 964 cams with surprisingly good readings.
