anyone pass CA smog with a non-stock cam?

Steve,
Saw the test was done at 15mph and 25 mph . What gear was used for the test ? Did they ever check at idle ?
Just curious . We have no emmissions testing here ! but that may change .
Guess they would go for a US test if it ever comes.
Thanks
Geoff

No, they do not test it at idle?

In CA your NOx of 986/1161 would have failed the test. Also note the CA standards are tighter for the HC and CO but you passed these.
FWIW, my 1992 C2 failed in CA once because the Catalytic Converter was not warmed up enough for the test, causing me much grief.

Do any of you know if our "Air Care" regs up here in British Columbia Canada are the same as the Cali ones??
I too am running without a cat and was told it should still pass?

When our cars had their exhaust emissions originally certified by Porsche they were polluting;

So big cams with a cat pass easily.

The maximum allowed values are:
HC(PPM) at idle: 120
HC(PPM) at 2500 RPM:140
CO% at idle and 2500RPM: 1.00
%CO2 and %O2 are also measured, but there are no maximum allowed amounts.
It's interesting that one engine that is blowing oil past the piston rings so much there's constant blue smoke, still passes! I was scared it would not do it because it was totally stinking up the testing garage!
Here are a healthy C4's readings:
HC at idle: 9 measured - 120 max allowed
HC at 2500: 2 measured - 140 max
CO% at idle and at 2500: 0 measured, 1.00 max
My stinky C4's readings:
HC at idle: 53 (!!!)
HC at 2500: 22
CO% at idle: 0.04
CO% at 2500: 0.09

Garrett,
Thats interesting. The HC/CO values are almost acheivable without a cat ! ,
certainly the CO.
Is there a vehicle age difference for the limits ? So a much newer car has tougher limits ?
Its encouraging that CA limits for your 964 dont look too bad.
Our emmission limit is if the DRL and high level stop light works !!!
Geoff

I also thought it was interesting that NOx's are not part of the measurement in these tests.
