Default Battery recommendation, what brand ?

Hi there,

I will replace my battery

Car currently has AC DELCO, but it's dying...

What are your thoughts regarding DIE HARD brand ?

Or any normal good brand will do just fine ?

+1 on the Optima red top. You can find a Optima at Costco for ~$140 or spend less for a conventional acid battery.

I am still using an acid battery on my 965, but will change to Optima red top when it is time to replace. I use Optima red top in my other cars and have zero problems.

Optima IMHO... and there is a seller on eBay that beat every price I could find even with shipping. Mine was a little over $100 with shipping.

The gel cell batteries also don't have the risk of the vent tube coming off or leaking in your "boot".

I've had good luck with Die Hards. This winter I'm also using the Porsche trickle charger due to long periods of being parked in the garage.

Ditto on the Diehard International batteries. I've used them for a long time. I especially like that they are readily available and reliable.

Interstate batteries have been very good to me. I just replaced one that was 8 years old in my 993. It was still cranking, but I was shipping my car to a new owner in NorCal and wanted it to start when he got it, and I think it was a good idea since it took 2 weeks due to the weather across the country. My wife's Benz is on year 7 with an Interstate battery.

No question: Optima. Full size power, no leaks or venting, fits stock backet. Be sure to get a Group 35 so the top posts are close to the side/corner and the stock positive terminal fits without interference.

+1 on the costco optima, don't leak, fit right in, and when they do go out take it back within the 5 years and they give you another one.(I've got these in all my cars, everytime I do this I scratch my head but they mark the receipt and hand me a new one with a new receipt!) If the car sits for a long time without running you might try the yellow top optima, cost a little more but some guys swear by them.

Because of work travel, and weekend projects that don't get finished, and ice storms in Houston, my car sometimes goes up to a month without being driven. So, I went with the Yellow Top Optima, and couldn't be happier. Starts every time no matter how long it sits.

Previously I had a Delco, and it would discharge in about 3 weeks (and yes, I do - like many 964s - have a slightly higher (60 mA) current drain than Porsche claims I should have).

Do you need some sort of extra clamp / bracket system for the optima?

Had Die Hard before, great battery. I now have and Optima Red Top and love it too. either will be a good choice. No mounting bracket needed.
