Hi Kevin,
Bluey964 has already expressed interest in being the drop point for plugs going to the UK. That's gonna help me. There's 6 or so people wanting plugs from the UK.

Yup - thought I would offer services to make it easier - figured between the pair of us could easily sort out the UK side of things.

Mojorizing,

Thanks to your excellent work, I now have the plug portion of the cable coming to me via USPS. My question is what to do with the other end of the cable?

Can someone point me to a thread or website on how to complete the cable construction? Is it best to optically isolate the connection to the serial cable on the laptop?

Here's the mother of all posts concerning the scantool

There's a pdf file of the schematic of the pcb in the folder of scantool.zip

I'll post a schematic of an equivalent circuit that I use. Optically isolated is not necessary because the rs232 is buffered by a rs232 driver and transistors/buffers.

I'm not sure who has these boards available, but with a Radio Shack proto board part # 276-150 and components, you should be able to make your own.

I'll post the schematic of the mojorizing version after I either find it on my harddrive or redraw it.

EDIT: deleted this pointer to a 993 board. The more I read about these interface boards the more I am confused. I will wait patiently for mojorizing to post what he is using for his 964. Anyway once I get this all sorted out I will try to help other 964 newbies out there trying to do the same thing.

Ricardo- I have the board at the house, but have not finished the tool. You can check it out when you're there.

Ok, I've read way too much, but that means I understand what I have to do. I am actually going to be leading another group buy of 993/964 boards so that those of us who are getting Mojorizings connector, but have no interface boards, can have something to hook it up to. I will be taking over where Cowtown left off on the 993 forum from the last group buy. I will keep everyone updated as I make progress (probably in a new thread).

I just wanted to say that I received my plug last Friday and it is a quality piece. I don't know the amount of time and effort that was put into it but it was worth every cent I paid. I give this plug 2 thumbs up.

Agreed. Received mine this weekend, and it's a fantastic bit of work by mojorizing. An excellent example of the benefits of participation on Rennlist!
