500 US Dollar = 267.285 British Pound

And that number is just a guess .
Might be more , might be less .
Untill you get a quote from a guy who does the work .........

I have a $200USD towing bill and a $112USD mechanics bill that says an open circuit of the idle speed control will keep the DME from starting the engine.

Jason

It may stop the engine from starting but would it stop the signal for the spark at the DME ?

My receipt is from 1996 which is before I started working on my car so I have no idea if it prevents the starter from turning over or if it just kills fuel & spark. All I remember was that the CEL illuminated just before I got home and once I turned the car off it wouldn't restart.

My car will start without my foot on the gas or with it on the gas . It will start with the switch open or closed .

"I have a $200USD towing bill and a $112USD mechanics bill that says an open circuit of the idle speed control will keep the DME from starting the engine."

Sounds like a REALLY bad mechanic or a good liar!

"My car will start without my foot on the gas or with it on the gas . It will start with the switch open or closed ." - Indycam -

Right on! Will possibly crank longer, but will ALWAYS start.

"while we're on the subject....Loren, what if someone wanted to do something crazy like use carburetors instead of the FI....but you still wanted the DME to provide the ignition. is that feasable?"

Shouldn't be a problem other than fault codes, e.g. AFM, O2 correct, and intake air temp.

The exact wording on the receipt is, "diagnose & repair open circuit in idle control".

I have now , I checked for any obvious signs , loose slolder joints , burnt componenents , arcing, etc and found nothing obvious to the naked eye.

Is everyone thinking it is the DME ?

I will first try to borrow one to eliminate any other problems, then start searching breakers yards and researching prices for a repair.

the thing is i dont want to send for a repair if it is something i have missed.

Is there somewhere i can send my DME just to have it tested?
