I think you have all guessed ,my car started.
I was over the moon when i heard the roar of the engine firing into life for the first time in well over a year.
I fitted the flywheel sensor and turned the engine engine over , i was gutted it wouldnt start ,then i looked down and realised that i hadnt reconnected the dme connector, plugged it in and said a little prayer, i was quietly crapping myself and muttered "please please please please" turned the key and bingo it started, I was over the moon , i was doing cartwheels all over the garage, never had i had such a feeling. Its so hard to describe the pleasure I felt.
I think the moral of this tale is if you have a hunch, just go for it. It might not be the cheapest route, but certainly it could be the quickest.
You can test a car all you like but unless you substitute parts you cannot guarantee they are working even though you are getting a positive reading.
I would like to thank each and everyone of you who have contributed to this very lengthy dicussion, you have all been extremely helpfull and you have taught me how to fully understand every little part of the ignition system, If I ever have another ignition fault it will be a lot easier for me to fix as I am now on first name terms with every wire on my car.
If any of you guys ever come to Cornwall, look me up and i will buy you a few beers, and if you ever need any help let me know.
