I've taken some pictures at different track events I'm attending and from time to time a few 964's show up. So I thought I'd share them with you. I'm nowhere near a pro-photographer and I'm sure there are plenty who take better photos. So in my case it's the cars not the pictures that should speak for themselves..


964 RS - This was taken with a phone camera 2 years old.


964 RS - Parked in the morning, before going to track


964x2 - Two track modified. I'm not sure but both might be rennlisters cars.


964 Cup - Prozac was the first reaction I got on this.

Nice pictures. The green with yellow bottom is a turbo body car. Is that a RS 3.8 rather than a Cup car modified with wide body work?

Had to look it up..
1991 964 Cup,
In -97 he converted it to a widebody so runs 265(!)/295.
The wing is a 3.8 wing I think.

Great pics. To me, the best looking car is the most standard, namely the blue Carrera. And it's the best photo as well.

A few I drove into the pit lane, threw myself out of the car (after fiddling with my saftey eq. forever), grabbed the camera, took the shots. A few others are taken with zoom lens and some cropping in Photoshop.

I am a photographic dunce. How do you set the camera at to get those nice motion blur's on the wheels, and background blur like that? Those are really nice shots!

1/60 ~ 1/150 is a good range for blur effects. To blur the background with a focused subject you would have to focus lock onto the moving subject and pan the camera while snapping continuously and pray one of the many is good. It's not hard but will take lots of practice and film.

It's called panning.

Peters suggestions seems to be nice.
A few tips also (they're not necessary, but can give some guidance):

- If you're panning and have a car that is moving towards or away from you, make sure you have a fast and accurate AutoFocus on the lens
- If you have some sort of image stabilizer, turn it to vertical shake correction only. Otherwise turn it off completly.
- A monopod will help you stabilize the camera movement
- Try to get a simple background
- Easy to pan is a corner exit where the car still is "slow".
- Corner entry usually makes street/sport cars lean forward and it will reduce the speed feeling of the car
- It's easy to get it wrong. If you have a digital camera, take zillions of pictures. 75% are junk when you blow them up anyway (yes, I know I'm bad).
- Get to know Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Good panning can get killed by a dull picture.
- Just like tracking, the skill of it comes first, equipment second.
- Photos and panning are fun. Tracking is more fun. If you don't agree, hand your car over to me.

Puh, well that's for starters. Also, I'm a happy amateur, so don't take my advices as the best ones. They might suck, but they worked descently for me...
