Default Optima YellowTop Battery

I've searched, but haven't found a direct answer. Is anyone using an Optima YellowTop in their 964, and, if so, what model fits?

Thanks!

I don't know wabout the yellow top but the group 35 red top I recently put in fits great.
The yellow tops are deep cycle... (can be discharged/recharged and stay happy) they have plenty of CCA so they will work fine. Some here have used them.

As a general rule, if you use your car a lot, get red top. If you let the car sit (without trickle charger, I suppose), get the yellow top. Red top is best for cars. Yellow might be better for boats or trailers.

Thanks Mark and Charlie. It looks like the RedTop is the way to go, plus a trickle charger for the winter weeks I can't get to bare pavement.

I can HIGHLY recommend the yellow top for cars not driven that much. Had a used one in my race car for 3 years, it was already 2 years old when I got it and it is still going in a friends car now 6 years old! Incredible

I have the Red Top 75/35 and it fits perfectly - plus it was 3 lbs lighter than the Interstate brick it replaced.

and NO battery acid leakage!

Excellent battery.
BTW, I bought mine off of a supplier on eBay. Best price around, even with shipping. I couldn't find one at a reasonable price locally. None of the discount stores (WalMart, etc.) had them around here.

I have an optima yellow top. Works great. I don't drive it daily, and keeps charge without a problem. The only thing I can gripe on this battery, well,ok two things I can gripe about is:

1. It's still heavy compared to some of those neat smaller ones for racing.

2. Since these batteries are adapted onto our cars, the positive terminal is too damn close to the front brake pressurizing pump-with only a thin plastic cover to separate the two. Imagine a front collision for a moment, and that big void behind it full of gasoline!

My battery term configuration is the opposite. The positive terminal is towards the front. Odd.

Mine is towards the front too. I put heavy rubber terminal covers (from a marine supply store) on - in the picture above, only the black negative cover is installed but I usually have a red positive cover on the other terminal too.

Yellow top here. Positive terminal at front of car. No fitment problems. Has been flattened many times by various current drains over the years, still going strong. Any ordinary battery would be long since killed, I'm sure. If you have no spurious electrical draws, yellow top is probably not needed. I look on it as cheap insurance against premature battery death.

Wanted to touch on the original question, as I think my battery has an internal short...which model Yellow Top fits the 964? Optima doesn't list a battery for the 964 on their website.

Thanks, Will

Group 75/35 fits!
They won't list it for the car but it fits perfectly.

Default Optima Yellow Top

Hi,
I have used one of these great batteries for over 5 years and have just replaced it having been run down to flat and charged back up again so many times I lost count & there is only (1) model that fits the space so you can't go wrong. I also fitted a Priority Start (pro x model) that cuts the battery off before it goes completely flat, this combo has never let me down, you buy the PS in the USA and combined is perfect for cars not driven all the time.
Cheers, Mark
