I am using a Compaq lap top with Win XP. As I said in a previous post it would not run without cutting one leg of the light out. I will post a picture of my rough setup tomorrow.
OK, got late into the game and trying to catch up to all you guys... I have just emailed Laurence for a copy of the software. A few questions...
1. The interface - where can I get the schematics. I would like to build it (would love to burn myself with the soldering gun to bring back those college memories).
2. Cable (I will go over the thread again in case I missed it...) Do we have a list of what needs to be order from John. Do we have a single person doing the Group Buy as he requested? Or, how much is it without the group buy??

It seems our friends to the north have someone coordinating a group buy, but it is priced in CN$ and not offered in the US.
Anyone else in the US want to join up to reach John Speake's critical mass of 5? I have done business with John, and he is a stand up guy. Unfortunately I am still in the middle of a complicated move, and am not in a goop place to administer a complicated transaction. I am up for joining a group buy if somebody wants to collect the money and place an order. While we are at it, is anyone willing to pull together an order for the rest of the hardware?
With many thanks to all here (but in particular; Chris (heirsh); DougB; Lawrence and Pete (pncarrerars) I have assembled all the necessary parts..........but cannot get a connected signal on either of two laptops (both w/serial ports) although both LEDs on Andy's interface do light up.
I've re-read the whole of this thread to try and troubleshoot and so have a Couple of questions:
1. Software. Pete sent me the "scantool" zip file. In there there are a number of files in addition to "ScanTool.exe". Do I need to do anything with these or do I just unzip ScanTool and start it up?
2. If I do the cut of of the connecting flashing LED on Andy's interface card: exactly what do I cut? I see the reference to snipping the R9 resistor. but it also looks like others cut one wire to the inner "D4" LED (ie the one furthest from the edge of Andy's board without the serial cable interface). Can someone please confirm before I do something silly!!!
cut one leg of the inside of the 2 LED's. Be sure the jumper the orange one near the 9 pin connector end is on the outside 2 pins. Should fire right up.
Unzip the files and run the program. Oh yea be sure the key is turned to on or start the car
Finally got around to taking pictures of the set up I made. I used a electric plug drilled to the correct pattern, the interface from Andys site mounted in a $2 radio shack work box. Took some mods on the socket and box but came out pretty good I think. Total cost $4.50 + the interface board.
Great to see lots of people now have working interfaces. What we need now is someone to finish off the software. The idle adaption and for the c4 guys the bleed routines etc would be good. There must be a few software chaps who have the skills.
I notice also that the software also works with early 993's too.
