Another possible n00b...
Greetings Rennlisters,
What a great online community you have here...tons of information and seemingly very friendly enthusiasts! Like most here, I've lusted after Porsches (911s in particular) from a very early age. Now, with the encouragement of a pcar crazy coworker, I'm exploring ownership. The first hurdle has been cleared...meaning the wife has signed off on the idea providing I sell the current toy...my VW R32 (now listed everywhere).
I've been digging through the pages of previous posts learning what I can about the 964. I really like the look of the C4 widebody coupe but have some questions regarding it's rarity. Was the turbo look simply an option on any 964?
I've read there there was a special edition (911 examples built) but it seems that those were not available in the US. Is that right? Does anyone have production numbers on factory C4 widebodies for the US?
The car I settle on will have to be low mileage as I intend to use it quite regularly...including my 60 mile roundtrip commute to work 2-3 times a week. My budget will be low 30s max, so I don't think I'll have trouble there.
Thanks for reading...I'd love to hear any thoughts and or comments.
-Mike

Low 30's and you are in 95-96 993 prices.
Unless its really low miles and near perfect condition you should be able to find something not much more then 20-27K for what you are looking for

The 964 series did not have a Turbo Look option available in all years.
Model Year 1992 had a Turbo Look cabriolet that was called the America Roadster. It essentially had Turbo suspension, fender flares, and brakes, but had the regular 3.6 motor and transmission. This was the first year of a factory available normally aspirated wide body 964.
Model year 1994 saw the addition of the turbo look for all C4's (someone correct me if I'm wrong). There were also anniversary models (which you mention above) of the C4 avaible with the Turbo body shell.
That's about it for factory Turbo Look models for the 964 series. There were none in '89, '90, '91, and '93.

My theory: why pay a premium for a low miles car and quickly turn it into a high miles car? I'd concentrate on getting a good one, at a fair price, and not worry so much about the low mileage...Just my 2 cents.

Mike... Welcome to Rennlist.com! I would think that you owe it to yourself to drive both the 964 and the 993 and then judge for yourself which ride you like better. (Especially since it will be a daily driver.) You should be able to find what you are looking for in the price range you set.
I looked for a long time for a turbo or turbo look model. $ years ago they were a little harder to find. (At least for me.)
Good luck and please keep us posted.

Low mileage cars can have their own set of problems since age takes it's toll like mileage does (ask me how I know). 964's are getting old...the newest ones are already 12 model years old now.
Good Luck!

That budget gets you into early 996 territory too... Those cars are more refined for daily driving verses our somewhat more raw air cooled cars.

Thanks for the welcome and suggestions all. I knew I liked this place. I know it's all in the driving and I plan to get seat time in each of the models within a week or two. Good call suggesting the higher mileage/well maintained examples too. I widen the search.
I have noticed the prices on 996s but really prefer the look of it's older brothers!

Also very much agree on the not fixating on a low miles car. Get a mid to high miles car that has been well maintained. My 964t has 96k on the clock and I race the holy hell out of her on the track, yet she keeps coming back for more.
