964 Prices

I have seen nice low mile C2's with all the right options sell for nearly $200k. A few sold for more but they were exceptionally unique cars. These are usually under 10k mile cars and in unique colors and are rarely publicly offered. Most of the cars I see sell in the $100k market have some flees like most gray market cars I see. Why one sells for more than another can be the result of many things. Sometimes it is just stupidity. Currently the market is relatively soft for some models but not all. The uber rich are still pricing the specialty cars through the stratosphere. But the cars have to check all the boxes. I have been saying for at least 5 or more years each car needs to be evaluated on a car by car basis. Somehow people got it in their heads that just because it is a C2 or C4 it is worth X. I can line a dozen 964's up and the average person will say they are all worth X. In actuality the range can be huge but it is hard to convince anyone of anything these days. Social Media has explained it all. ![Confused](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)

Is a grey market car less desirable than a US market car? Is a 964 RS technically a grey market car...but one we certainly would not want to avoid?

Years ago, gray market cars were definitely less desirable (not just Pcars), but that sentiment seems to have changed, They all seem to be worth the same as their counterparts.

Coral Red/black ‘92 C2. Has sport seats and cup 1 wheels although the car wasn’t originally optioned with them. Paint meter readings indicate a lot of paintwork, but compression numbers look good. Option sticker under the hood doesn’t look correctly placed as it’s almost in the center, but could have been reapplied if the hood was repainted. The car has a black engine fan which I’m not a big fan of painting it.

^^ Is it me or are we seeing more and more of the 964's being sold on PCar vs BaT?

Yes, and Pcar has been advertising with showing the same cars not meeting their reserve on BAT but then selling for much more on Pcarmarket; however, one or two of those exact cars was talked about here as a no buyer after sale.

Forgot this one was on BaT. Only bid up to $96,500 and seller now trying their luck on Pcarmarket.

I'm biased, but I think the bottom is $100k. As long as a car checks out, seems like a nice/decent example starts there.

and that's basically what the Coral Red C2 brought on BaT - just over $101k all in. i think that's a fair indicator of the [buyer's] market right now on a 97k mile car. i'd wait out 2024 and hope for more optimism in 2025. we're just in a lame duck moment right now. good time to buy, poor time to sell, imo.
The gains of the past four years are still a LONG way from being wiped out so I imagine there is still plenty of room to fall. I think it's probably still a good time to sell - the only ones who are hurting are the ones who bought an average (or worse) car in 22/23 and think they can (or need to) recoup their investment. It's probably gonna be at least a few years before that happens.

I think 100k is the bottom and I'm not sure it's going much less. 964s are not as common as G bodies and the like, they seem very desirable, even with some decent 993 cars trading less. Who knows what the future holds, but with the new gen, Singer and the like craze, I think we won't see these for less than 100k, and only getting more valuable as time goes on. But who really knows...

I agree that a decent 964 will cost $100k, deduct for a car that has any obvious needs and double it if its in a desirable color combo and or unique options.
