Had my Cup at a local concours this weekend. Got a surprising amount of attention and compliments about the car. A lot of how the 964 has aged so gracefully. Also a lot of questions about being a Cup car with a normal street interior and no roll cage. So had to give some long explanations but was a good conversation piece. Ended up winning in my class not sure which one as didn’t get to pick as they put us in whatever class they think fit best. Think it was either Supercars or Vintage Sport GT.

^^ I have seen a number of US spec 964 Cups some with very low miles and I think yours might be one of the cleanest out there that hasn't been fully restored.
Looks great and the interaction is as much fun as the ride.

Thanks gents! I actually ran into the second owner who owned the car for 20 years (1995-2015). He had one of his vintage Lotus’s there, but is mainly a Porsche guy. Was active in the NNJR for many years even have some of the concours pamphlets and other things he kept from the events in the 90’s. Was gracious enough to send me this stuff when I first met him a couple years ago. Not in that region anymore as he moved up to New Hampshire 5 or so years ago. First owner may have also been NNJR as he resided in New York but haven’t met him.
One guy asked if I would be interested in selling the car but have no interest in selling hopefully ever. Don’t even want to entertain it as I’m afraid of being tempted. My son wants the car and loves it as much as I do.

I think I know who you are talking about, he might happen to own a rather nice SCRS rally car? I believe I know the owner prior to him as well then. Don't sell so long as your son has interest might as well keep it in the family. My son would like my cars as well. If he plays his cards right they might just become his one day.

Correct. That one was at Parade when at Poconos a couple years ago. Think it won in the restoration class.

Great car nice owner. Crappy event. My friend won best in show but I got screwed at that one and still took the Stuttgart award with a nearly perfect score. I am done with concours, too many politics and BS. I passed on the oportunity to buy an SCRS years ago. That was another that got away.

Yes there are definitely politics and other funny things that go on at concourses especially the higher end more prestigious ones. Have friends who work in car restoration that take cars to Pebble Beach every year and say there are politics that go on all the time. Whether the judges know the entrant and owe them a favor or they don’t like something about the car’s history.
Heard there were issues at Parade that year with some cars being parked inside but most had to go outside.

I have been showing for over 35 years and judging for over 20. I've been a Parade judge several times and I am probably the most impartial judge you will find. I base my findings on actual findings. I am always looking to be fair no matter if I like the car the owner or not the results aren't influenced. It is either a 300 point car or it isn't. But I found even at Parade level some judges don't read the rules or make up stuff for whatever reason. I actually awarded someone 1st in preservation I would have preferred wouldn't win but he tied with the RSA which I felt was equally well preserved but the winner drives his car to every event with nearly 100k miles vs the RSA which had 12k miles and trailers it.
Yes 22 was a cluster****. I was stuck outside in the rain with the 14 out of 15 cars I competed against. I argued we should all be outside at a min but they chose to judge one car in my class that sat inside and they even interviewed the company showing that detailed the car. They were an event sponsor and even with 4 people cleaning for 14 hours at the event and 16 hours prior to they could only get a 299.8 vs my 299.4 IIRC. I had 2 hours to clean all the water off and attend the judges meeting. I judged inside and out and it was impossible to be fair but clearly they had picked the winner prior to judging. I found out later the 2 judges that dinged me were customers of the shop that won. Why we allow business to participate is an entirely different issue? The best was when one rubbed his fingers under the back ledge of the engine compartment and showed me his already dirty fingers and when I rubbed mine nothing came up. He didn't know I had spent 3 hours at home steam cleaning the area and not a chance there was any grease there. Clearly made it up but there is no fighting it. I have no tolerance for BS and at that level there should be no BS but not the world we live in today.
I do understand it is common. Back to the old boys club mentality. I have a tendency to **** people off with my brutal honesty comments. I have made numerous brass era parts for Pebble winning cars back in the day. My customers would bend my ear about how much BS they had to endure before they would judge them fairly. But that is back to the subjectivity of the sport.
