Question Connector, left side - engine compartment

Found this cable/connector (unconnected) behind the coils (left side of engine).

Is it supposed to be disconnected? What is it used for?

That looks like the connector that has a litle plastic housing that clamps around this side and the other side of the connector when they are together. The housing screws into that aseembly back there with all the cables and hoses going through it.

I do not know what it does, but I do know it is connected in my car.

Looks like the cruise control connector to me. While troubleshooting my cruise a while back I found mine was disconnected.

Pingo,

I've got one of those too!! When I asked the same question a year or so ago I got the same answer that Jim gave you - the Cruise Control. My car doesn't have Cruise Control - but it seems the wiring is there anyway.

Regards

Dave

Hmm..

My car doesn't have cruise control and it is not the connector for the O2 sensor.

In teori there sould be something "in the other end". I will have a look under the dash near the steering column to see if there are some unconnected wires/plugs.

It's the cruise control connector.

Thanks John and the rest of you...

yes, this is the cruise control connector.
There are a lot of unused connectors in a 964.
I wish there was a "connector guide" for the porsche.
When I first got the car, I thought that a lot of electrical things where missing.
Maybe we can make a picture database of "unused connectors" ;-)

There kinda, sorta is a "connector guide" in the back of each section (it's sheet 13 for each model year) of the wiring diagrams in the technical workshop manuals, "Plug connections, ground points, abbreviations." Sheet 12 has an a-z grid with a diagram of the 964 and you just refer back and forth between the two.

I know, but a lot of the connectors are missing on sheet 13. :-(
