Default If you did your Flywheel & Clutch

What setup did you go with and why.

Stock (double mass)
RS Light weight
1989 C4 single mass
what resuts did you get and how much was the cost. Are you happy with your setup. What about the stalling issue?

There is a thread here: https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/189246-lwf-poll.html that looks at some of those issues.

I have SPEC LWF setup and I like it! Engine revs up very quick and very responsive.
There are still some down sides: I have to adjust ISV to keep the idel at about 1100rpm otherwise it won't hold the idle. Also it's hard to drive smoothly with AC on, as rev drops too quick. Some minor stalling issue with AC on or when engine is cold. There sre also some noise, especially around 2000rpm, but it's minor as engine is much louder than that...
The major issue is SPEC clutch is SOOOO HEAVY! I need to do some excerise to my left leg to drive my Porsche!

When the gear box was out, I replaced both with another stock clutch, but updated to the LUK Fly Wheel.

I saw no advantage to a clutch update, and I have read too many stories about low mass flywheel nightmares.

Hey these 964s are older than I thought 1889 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 89 C4 flywheel has no history of idle problems and is a lot lighter than a dual mass. Check out Andial.

I changed to RS Lightweight; stalling no worse than before! As long as I let the engine idle for 20 seconds or so before setting if, it'll run fine.

I'll second the no problems with the LWF & RS clutch stalling issues. I've always wondered if the earlier cars with the Aluminum intake manifold are more prone to it? I'll start a Poll...!

The MY89 single mass flywheel currently sold by Porsche weighs the exact same as the RS LWF (11 pounds - I couldn't believe it either). There is also an issue with the bellhousing having changed after MY89 so that the MWF has some fitment/alignment issues with the starter ring gear on newer models (i.e. it doesn't work -- BTDT)

Went to LWF. No stalling issues to speak of, even with aircon. Quicker response. About $800 in parts (I think I got a great deal) and installed it myself.

Jason,
Is that an 04 at the end? Could you take another picture of the unit with the part number easier to read please?
Only the G64 transmission casing was changed for model year 1990 to accomodate the DMF.
Ciao,
Adrian.

The part number on the box was 964-102-239-00 and the part number on the flywheel is 964 102 239 0R.

Sorry, it was returned but here is the other photo I have (I didn't take the pictures). The weight being the same as my LWF kinda threw me for a loop. I even spoke with Pete Sanchez at Andial about it and he had no clue either.

I've got a LWF and it’s a nightmare with the AC on regarding stalling…it’s near dangerous to drive. However, without the AC on its fine. Nevertheless, as soon as the clutch is due my LWF will be donated to the nearest shooting range or used to feed fish at the bottom of a lake.

If you track the car there is possibly "some" very very very minor advantages. If it’s just a street car, its $$ down the drain.

I would think with the A/C -on-, the engine would have more flywheel effect, despite the pumping losses of the compressor.. Just a thought anyhow..
